Also in reading up on portage/ebuilds a little more, one sees reference to the "merge" action as the final step - the typical fetch/patch/build/install […]

パッケージの管理にemerge, emaint, equery, eixといった複數のコマンドを覺える必要がある。これらをフル活用しないとまともにパッケージ管理ができない（USEフラグを觸らずに全部デフォルトでやるならいいかもしれないが、それならGentooを使ふ意味がない）。このほかにもeclean-kernelもある。
