The early medieval gold Escrick Ring was found by detectorist Michael Greenhorn in a field near York #OTD in 2009. The sapphire seems to have originally been surrounded by a red glass cloisonné. 📸York Museums Trust

Henry Thompson Sr and Henry Thompson Jr are father and son respectively.
Thompson Sr was Governor in 1667-1672 and Lord Mayor of York in 1663 and owned Clifford’s Tower.
Thompson Jr inherited his father's estate of Escrick in 1683. He was also Lord Mayor in 1699 and died a year later.

Our team have also been busy on #SkipwithCommon NNR recently carrying out boundary fencing repairs, to help out Escrick Park Estate and to keep the Exmoor Ponies, English Longhorn Cattle and Hebridean Sheep safe, all of which help with the management of the heathland via grazing 🐎🐑

The relatively new scrape on the edge of the cycle track between Moor Lane Bridge and Escrick station held frog spawn and at least 15 newts. It just shows what a bit of water and planning does.

I abandon the photography and stop to repack my rucksack. As I do so I notice a robin in a hawthorn hedge, flitting and alighting, four feet away, three feet away. I switch the camera on and take several quick shots as the focus lags and readjusts, the robin slightly ahead, and whole, and gone. 61/
