Wife got me jícaras for my birthday, so obviously the Real Minero came off the shelf. Espadín capón, barril espadín, barril verde y amarillo, mexicanito tripón capón — all Santa Catarina Minas. That last one's bottle 24 of 32.

espadín agave is the fastest growing, quite profitable, and also requires a ton of water in a water-strapped place - wild agaves are hit hard by harvesting

however Oaxaca is also a poor place and the mezcal boom is benefiting some formerly very poor farmers

Most mezcal is not made from wild agave - espadin is now heavily cultivated - but it's absolutely true that it crushes tequila and both terms are (by treaty) under the cool of the Mexican government
