After submitting a FOIA request UKRI, I obtained success rates by three grant call scheme and I can only say that I am disheartened by the results:

- AHRC Responsive Mode 2025: 2%
- ESRC New Investigator Grant 2025: 1%
- ESRC Research Grant Round 2025: 1%

.@ukandeu.bsky.social has for years produced high quality research on the UK's links with the EU.

Yet it now faces closure because of ESRC grant cuts.

Some 66 of us Parliamentarians (38 MPs and 28 peers) have signed a cross-party letter urging ESRC + UKRI to reconsider their decision.

We won the ESRC Celebrating Impact Prize for Outstanding Public Policy Impact last night. An inspiring evening, learning about projects making profound differences, highlighting the power of research (see: Yvonne McDermott Rees; @richardmoorhead.bsky.social; and many more)

We just published a paper on what the new NATIONAL DATA LIBRARY should look like.

It's very readable!

Lots on: accountability.. federated analytics.. code.. modular tools..

Thanks to @wellcometrust and @ESRC who ran a competition for these papers!

Bluesky inaugural post!!

The team who put this lovely video together about our work at the EU Rights & Brexit Hub have worked wonders, and such an honour to have comments from Ellie Sibley at the AIRE Centre - thank you!

I really wish announcements about new schemes from public funders like the ESRC weren't made via paywalled articles...

One option is, of course, to create institutions that help universities do things better, which, I think, is what ESRC did with @ukandeu.bsky.social
Probably unpopularly amongst university academics, I think the near monopoly universities have on the social sciences is bad, and the creation of a serious non-university social science research arena would be good for everyone - including university academics!
Some thoughts on how we might increase institutional diversity in social science funding.

We’re delighted to have been awarded a further 3 years of funding by the ESRC and KCL.

This will allow us to realise our long-term ambition of a sustainable Centre, delivering actionable insights on the links between social change, inequalities, and mental health.

Shame the ESRC didn't fund a research centre focused on trust, eh?
See also Starmer's talk soon afterwards of, "our commitment to international law and to alliances founded on trust".

He adds: "But being pragmatic does not mean being passive."

Strong contender for ESRC funding to produce an open source publicly funded alternative. It's surely a relatively straightforward task for decent computer scientists at this point.

Awful news for all the UKICE team, who provide such a valuable resource. I really do hope the ESRC reconsider.
