Paranoid Void
Math Rock, Instrumental Post-Rock & Polyrhythmic Artistry from Osaka
Biography
Formed in Osaka, Japan in 2013, Paranoid Void is a critically acclaimed all-female instrumental math-rock trio comprising guitarist MEGURI, bassist YU-KI, and drummer MIPOW. Self-described as crafting "emotional floating sounds with technical rhythm," the trio quickly established a formidable presence in the international math-rock and post-rock communities through their seamless balance of delicate melodic sensitivity and fiercely complex rhythmic architecture.
Gaining early viral momentum with tracks like "Utsuroi", Paranoid Void expanded beyond Japan's club circuit to make significant waves overseas, including a landmark showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas, tours across North America, and appearances at progressive music festivals such as ArcTanGent in the UK. Operating with uncompromising DIY vision, the trio often integrates striking visual art, dance collaborations, and meticulous self-production into their hypnotic live shows and releases.

EPs & Notable Singles
* pop hints (2019) – A vibrant mini-album highlighting playful rhythmic syncopation and melodic hooks.

Musical Style & Instrumental Dynamics
Paranoid Void’s sound hinges on the telepathic musical dialogue and balance between all three players:
* MEGURI's Clean Tapping & Fingerstyle Guitars: Characterized by crystal-clear, chiming single-coil tones (frequently on Fender Telecasters), MEGURI weaves two-handed fretboard tapping, delicate arpeggio loops, and octave sweeps that outline chord changes without heavy distortion.
* Complex Meters & Polyrhythmic Drive: MIRAI's drumming combines ghost-note-laden jazz-fusion articulation with rapid-fire meter modulations (5/8, 7/8, 11/8), locking seamlessly with YU-KI’s melodic, walking basslines.
* Dynamic "Floating" Atmosphere: Rather than relying on aggressive distortion crescendos, their dynamic shifts come from subtle volume swells, modulated delays, pristine reverbs, and rhythmic push-and-pull.
* Counterpoint Bass Voice: YU-KI treats the bass as an equal lead instrument, trading melody lines with the guitar while anchoring deep groove pockets.
