It's been a fantastic week at #Exoplanets6, much excitement, the field has kicked up to an even higher gear since #Exoplanets5, some very cool results landing soon on the arXiv! Next up, exoplanets in high resolution at #HoRS3S. Giddy up y'all! 🐎🤠

That counts as a Trappist transmission spectrum right? #exoplanets5

Come find me at my poster! Poster Area G. We got coffee! #exoplanets5

*Resolved* iron lines at high spectral resolution 🤩 presented today at #exoplanets5 by Jens Hoeijmakers from Prinoth et al. 2024 @bibianaprinoth.bsky.social

Quote of the day from #exoplanets5:
George Ricker, when asked how long TESS could continue operating “Well we’ve got about 20kg of propellant remaining, and are using about 1g per month, so that’s roughly two millennia.” 🔭

Very cool talk from Allona Vazan on a rain of rocks in sub-Neptunes, to explain the radius valley and different interior structure #exoplanets5

Not allowed to skeet it but new GJ1214b spectrum is 🔥 #Exoplanets5

It's great that I can get all the way from Oxford to Leiden for #Exoplanets5 by train, in only 7h30 - that's no more time than I'd spend travelling by plane, counting all the transfers and waiting at the airport - and it's not crazy expensive either! @exoplanets.bsky.social 🔭

Today's out-of-context quote from #exoplanets5:
“There were people in the working group doing really strange things, like cosmology.” - Enric Palle 🔭

Last talk of this session is by Anthony Brown on the expected planet yield from GAIA DR4. Expect thousands of giant planets via astrometry and possibly 1000 transiting hot Jupiters. #Exoplanets5

X-ray astronomy is a whole different world for #exoplanets5:
"In 32 hrs of observation, we detected five photons" ... "after several follow-up studies, we now have 18 photons" - Tim Cunningham 🔭

Björn Benneke proposing that we turn our thinking of sub-Neptune envelopes away from layered atmospheres back to a mixed (miscible) one of H2 with significant H2O or CH4 fraction (e.g. 50/50). Think not oil & water but alcohol & water, much better mixed! #exoplanets5 🪐

Now we are hearing from Peter Gao about super puffs aka very low density planets with (sub) Neptune masses but (sub) Jovian sizes. How they get and retain this exact amount of gas is a mystery. #Exoplanets5

I'm not at #Exoplanets5 today, but part of my work is! For those interested, check how NIRPS provides an independent detection of Proxima b and becomes the first 1 m/s infrared spectrograph! The time for EPRV in the NIR is here 🪐🔭 #Exo5

Welbanks: TL;DR, HD189733b is (chemically) like Jupiter but hot. HD189733b retains its crown as the original and best hot Jupiter! #Exoplanets5

In totaal bijna 800 deelnemers #exoplanets5

Next we are hearing from Sebastian Zieba, whose birthday it is today. His advisor Laura Kreidberg is chairing and encouraged the entire conference to sing happy birthday! He is speaking about thermal emission measurements for transiting rocky exoplanets. #Exoplanets5
June 20, 2024 at 7:34 AM
Stevenson: PandExo is optimistic for small planets/bright stars - you probably need more transits than you think. #Exoplanets5
June 18, 2024 at 7:20 AM
Next up is Ryan Challener presenting a beautiful eclipse map of WASP-43b using NIRSpec G395H observations. #Exoplanets5
June 17, 2024 at 2:29 PM
Challener: eclipse map shows north-south asymmetry in the temperature map. This is robust to system parameters. Overall map is consistent with MIRI eclipse map. #Exoplanets5
June 17, 2024 at 2:35 PM
Mansfield: having a well-characterised star is really important for eclipse measurement. Stellar refitting can change interpretations, beware! #Exoplanets5
