This is unfortunately true across media. People say "no one is making this" and refuse to search through indies. They mean why is no one of the captalist class investing massive dollars into this. The reality is the kinds of experinces we want are being made if your willing to do a tiny bit of work.
This might come across as more than a little blunt, but please bare with me. A lot of people completely dismiss or even hate indie games and what's being unsaid here is they want is something mainstream from major studios with advertising and popular enough that the zeitgeist allows them to play it.
I see people saying this sort of thing often, and quite frankly it makes me sad. The truth is, more people are making good adventure games now than were ever made during the “golden age” of the 90s. For example: 🧵

I think it's easy to universalize your dysphoria as a universal trans experince it isn't. Not everyone experinces transness like you and people are going to relate to things you don't relate to.

I absolutely think that its worth dissecting these mechanics regardless of your answer. I used to think a long while back that this was a more narrative problem than a mechanics one, but the Dialect TTRPG really opened my eyes to just how strongly mechanics can shape narrative experinces.
