Trump's obsession with Greenland and erratic interventionism towards Venezuela are almost textbook case studies of a declining great power externalising its growing domestic instability into external imperial quagmires

"For nearly a decade, [the European Union] pursued a strategy of “externalising” migration control, directing aid, training, and equipment to African states ostensibly to reduce irregular migration towards Europe."

Externalising cost and risk and responsibility like this is such *chef’s kiss* end-stage capitalism.
Wild how they address this by offloading it on to parents rather than, say…making a safer product.

to me the vibes of AI safety feels like it's about externalising the problem of evil to an uncontrollable force to distract from the fact that evil is still mostly within us humans, including the people in the tech industry themselves
I have no problem with devoting SOME funding and effort to understanding the risk of AI killing us all.

But I think it's insane that in 2026, as we're watching AI cause right-now harms to right-now people, that the ethical tech space has been almost entirely taken over by these galaxy-brain fears.

She’s wrong though. It’s me externalising my inner world AND bullying Guy.

It's like they're externalising some sort of frustration at having never been able to terrorise Africans like other European powers.

Honestly everyone using genAI tools to save their own time and effort is just externalising that time and effort multiplied many-fold, onto other people.
It’s cognitive fly-tipping.

Funding cuts are framed as correcting CDC “messaging failures,” shifting responsibility for the consequences onto the very institutions being undermined, externalising blame to the out-group, and reinforcing the group-think of the in-group.

We love externalising our internal thoughts so it looks like flashbangs on other peoples’ timelines

The surveillance state is never really about "efficiency". It's about externalising cost, risk and harm onto the people least able to fight back

(I want a minister questioned in parliament on how permanent, whole-population, airline data-tracking to police public benefits can ever be proportionate)
Child benefit payments stopped based on incomplete data - people who went on holiday for short periods had payments stopped because travel data seemed to show they had left the country permanently, but they had done no such thing.

Tell me again how automation is seamless and efficient?

It's such a dominant mechanic. Fear of becoming Other mitigated by externalising it to the most convenient marginalised group.

2/4 … in reality, they've just gathered wealth through a rigged system. Favourable tax policies? Check. Monopolistic practices? Double-check. Exploiting labour? Triple-check.

And let's not forget the pièce de résistance: externalising costs. These geniuses offload the mess they …

Angus Taylor is a moron. He just doesn’t get most people, on both sides, are sick of this confrontational, blame‑externalising version of politics.

But transphobes are always miserable before the bigotry surfaces... and then it becomes their outlet for upset.

A way to distract from their real problems by externalising the issue.

the tenth doctor's three modes of existence:

- adorable goof, eyes sparkling with genuine love for the cosmos and all within
- externalising a sadness and grief so deep and cold that the bottom of the mariana's trench seems cozy in comparison

I’ll be well over 80 then so continence and still being able to eat solid food might be my biggest challenges rather than changing my politics due to externalising my self loathing 😊
