i wonder what anti-facerec juggalo dazzle would look like

I have my doubts this kind of individual action will move the dial ( any more than samisdat facerec face painting has) but its a fascinating example of code as law ( actually code >law) but also shows the flaws with robots txt
Some artists suggested that we pin a summary of Glaze, Nightshade & other projects here. Instead, I will point them to Melissa Heikkilä's article on our lab and projects. It is the definitive story of who we are, how we got here, and why we do what we do.

The AI lab waging a guerrilla war over exploitative AI
The tools Glaze and Nightshade are giving artists hope that they can fight back against AI that hoovers internet data to train. Are they enough?

You can still buy OMNY cards with cash, but it seems fewer people do, and OMNY meticulously tracks every account's every swipe, station, and timestamp. Couple this with the facerec cameras and the NYC subway has gotten significantly more surveilled in just the past few years.
New York City's MTA will stop selling and refilling MetroCards by the end of the year in favor of the OMNY system, MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber says.
First the token, now the swipe: NYC's subway system to stop selling MetroCards
Commuters will still be able to use their existing MetroCards with whatever funds they have on them until sometime in 2027.

This being said though, in the fantasy land where we can separate the facerec out of the shit, if you're a prominent person dont go having an affair where they famously pick people out of the audience to put on the titantron

The #AI company blames the store, and they're right – the store should NEVER have hired the AI company.

i like playing ingress and i like having a map for my walkies and bikies and neither of those require a camera they require a gps and a compass

i would not hate having my phone broadcast a BLE contact card so that other people wearing the glasses can see it ON AN OPT IN BASIS. absolutely no facerec

This shit makes me want to get facerec jamming tattoos on my fuggin face

It’s important to keep in mind that phrenology isn’t JUST racist, it’s also massively ableist. People with facial injuries, visible skin conditions, tics, birthmarks; neurodivergent people, and visually-impaired people are *already* being judged as less-than-human by facerec systems,
November 7, 2025 at 11:51 AM
Well, yes, complete with unwarranted assumption of AI facerec being "superhuman" (and lordy loo let me tell you about human level lmao)

🔴 Finally out, my work in @naturecomms.bsky.social investigates (re-)identification techniques from browser fingerprinting to facial recognition.

It's a surprisingly tough problem, with incorrect heuristics and rules of thumbs often used—huge issue for accountability and independent investigations.

Disclaimer: by chance I know the main shotspotter engineer (he's not from AI but materials science!) But unlike facerec, the problem here is purely social; no bias in the tech. That it's less safe for some communities to have emergency workers turn up to help is NOT about "surveillance." #AIEthics
In a rebuke of surveillance technology, the city of Chicago is decommissioning its use #ShotSpotter and canceling its contract.

I guess this is also my Selfie post for the facerec bots in Maryland which will see this traffic

Whatever the Met’s paperwork might say, this is *not* a legitimate or lawful use case for facerec tech. It is, in fact, exactly the sort of thing data protection law was conceived to prevent, because the *only* purpose for this use case is abuse.

For all you geniuses protesting here's a pro tip:
Cover your face and eyes.
That's right, mask up like the ICESTAPO and wear shades.
Why? They're recording you, and running your face thru FaceRec and AI.
They find out who you are and they can retaliate.

I learned a person on social media was.....

The companies providing face recognition-based access control in sports stadiums want to push FaceRec from sports stadiums outward -- think, anywhere that you need a ticket, pass, or ID to enter.

This might be good for assorted team owners, companies, and billionaires, but it's not good for us.

3. Robert Dillon was arrested for a crime he did not commit, in a city he's never been to, all because AI facerec said there was a 93% chance he was the man caught on security cameras trying to lure a young girl (<12) to leave a fast food place with him. Dillon is suing, w/ACLU help.

This was discovered a decade ago by the feds. Fans of the group ICP would paint their faces with exaggerated clown make up. Facerec couldn't read them.

Wired is the single most uncritical AI-pushing magazine I currently know. People cheering about this facerec thing as a win over unhinged tech-madness, brought about by Wired reporting, seem to forget that!
June 9, 2026 at 6:41 AM
They used the word “attacked.” They view civil society groups as “attackers.”

This is a small patch to a gaping hole, but making your profile private and turning off FaceRec appears to disable the ability to be looked up - for now.
