#FallAsters The rice button asters (Symphyotrichum dumosum) are in full showy mode right now and the bees are loving it. It's been a prolific volunteer in our unpoisoned yard in gardens and meadow areas.
Close-up photo of a fuzzy yellow bee with hairy black legs on a small daisy-like flower. Out-of-focus green is in the background. Text says, "Pollinator on Rice button aster Symphotrichum dumosum"

A perfectly huge profusion of pale pink Harrington's Pink fall asters. I trim tall asters back in June by about ⅓ which results in them being shorter, absolutely smothered in flowers. Bees, other pollinators love these flowers. #gardenssky #bloomscrolling #fallasters #pollinators #gardens

It's almost autumn, and the fall New England Asters are showing off splendidly. I have a few varieties in the garden but also some of them hybridize on their own. #bloomscrolling #blueskygardens #gardensky #gardening #fallasters #flowers
Photo of a tall, deep purple and very striking New England Aster. The central array of florets is yellow until bumblebees collect its pollen, then the cone turns bronze to brown in colour This variety is called September Ruby and is a dramatic and exuberant variety. It's a deep magenta shade that really pops. And my absolute favourite is ‘Alma Potschke’, which is about the colour of Pepto Bismol or pink peppermints. It's growing with Black Hawks big bluestem, a deep burgundy almost black tall perennial grass.
