Please behold: the biggest bolete I’ve ever seen, just casually existing by the roadside. I screamt a little scream when I first saw this football sized beauty! What do we think… is it the much sought-after Penny Bun?

The underside of a bolete appears in the foreground of the photo, with its teeth and tubes forming a rolling corrugated skin, catching the late afternoon sun. In the background a forest bed of oak leaves can be seen, with various oak and pine trees in the background, with a background of blue sky. Slightly zoomed out shot of the bolete underside. Top-down shot of the bolete - the slightly bumpy top of the bolete is a mix of tan and caramel colors, with a few spots of reddish brown and a few bites/chunks missing, where the yellow under-flesh can be seen. Below, you can see a bed of oak leaves. Top down shot comparing size of bolete on right with OP’s left hand - it is equal to the size of two hands with palms and fingers spread.

Enjoying the gorgeous mycorrhizal patterns on these fleeting Hare’s foot ink caps - if you blink, you’ll miss the delicate fruiting bodies, as their lifespan plays out in just under 24 hours!

White branching patterns reach toward a tan and brown center with small nodules, comprising the center of the inside of a mushroom cap - with the dark striated patterns of the cap visible behind the white branching patterns. This is a slightly more zoomed out version of the first picture, still in bird’s eye view, with the inky outside of the mushroom cap now wrapping around the inside, with mulch and wood chips visible below the mushroom. In this picture, four hare’s foot ink caps of various heights cluster together in a bird’s eye view, their caps curled slightly inward, with mulch and wood chips visible below the mushrooms. This is a side view of the hare’s foot ink caps cluster of fruiting bodies, with long, pale stems that have white fuzz at the base, with black, inky parallel lines running from the top of the stems to the top of the caps, which are curled slightly inward. In the background, one can see mulch/wood chips and a variety of weeds and grass, with a redwood fence behind both.
