Families Like Ours
Countries disappear, love remains. With sea levels rising, Denmark is evacuated and life changes forever. An evocative story of love, loss and hope in the face of disaster.

Fabulous news for #TweetClubNoir fans of #ScandiNoir starting on Saturday 3rd May we have a new series starting.
#FamiliesLikeOurs is all about an environmental disaster hitting Denmark and the resulting impact on a range of characters.
It consists of 7 episodes, so I’m not sure how BBC4 will…

Accepting a child who can bring them glory in football and denying his mother residency is so on brand for Theresa May's deliberately cruel and nonsensical immigration system. #FamiliesLikeOurs #FamilierSomVores

LAURA: Lucas, is that a sled?
LUCAS: Yes, & you’re on it.
LA: Did I tell you about my sled?
LU: No. That’s your dad.
LA: Who’s that?
LU: A dead person. Who fell off.
Or maybe the person’s asleep.
LA: Lucas, who’s dead?
LU: I don’t know. It’s just a drawing.

Sweet! =)

LAURA: I’m really gonna miss you, Lucas. My little crystal ball.
LUCAS: …
……Do you think we’ll meet again?
LAURA: I don’t know.

“Crystal ball”…? ESP that unconsciously helps his football skills, like wee wizard Anakin & podracing? Tuned in/ready somehow for what’s coming?

I’ve recently binge-watched it and found it tremendous. The moral plane underpinning many of the narratives is wonderfully handled - and guarantees our empathy, often when we least expect it. One of the best things I’ve seen for a very long time..

I’m a foreign series streaming buff and every now and then one will stick with me hard. Danish series “Families Like Ours” is one of those. Gripping and timely, it’s more about civil breakdown and how we treat refugees as ‘other’ than about global warming. #FamiliesLikeOurs #Streaming #Netflix
