If you think what is happening to fic authors with the AO3 outage would "never happen to fanartists" then you have quite simply been operating in a bubble and probably contributed to the consumerist mentality that lead to people viewing fanwork as disposable ever-ready junk food in the first place

En la comunidad modder están empezando a proliferar tb los mods hechos con IA y de verdad que ya no puedo más. Me parece un mojón que se use la IA en el trabajo o para preguntarle por qué está tu novia enfadada contigo, pero la gente que la usa para cualquier expresión de fanwork es aún PEOR.

I have met some of my dearest friends through transformative fanwork and I would not give that up for anything. I have no plans to pack up my toys and say "fuck you, you don't deserve my creative labor", but boy howdy do I understand the impulse and do not judge any writers who do choose to do so.

didnt realize so many people don’t understand fanwork-making as a form of social participation and instead see it exclusively as means to an end product that can be divorced from and consumed w/o its context. but that does explain some things abt how i’ve been treated online the past couple of weeks
