#Ootd is this 1948 Mainbocher evening dress. Mainbocher was an American couturier from Chicago, working in Harper's Bazaar and Vogue before making his own house. He made exquisite dresses like this one from Indian saris, which was owned by Millicent Rogers. #Fasionhistory @metcostume.bsky.social

Interestingly, this dress was made during the years of the Civil War, when the economics and material goods made possible through the institution of slavery was seen as at jeopardy. #Fasionhistory @thehenryford.bsky.social
