#fatesong
Fatesong is a narrative-focused heroic fantasy TTRPG.

It begins brutal and grounded, where every wound matters.
But as characters grow, their legends grow with them.

By the end, heroes shape kingdoms and challenge myth.

The Paizo editing team is playing a #Pathfinder2e game. I’ve decided to go way outside my comfort zone.

Tomorrow, my colleagues meet Seren Fatesong—a liminal catfolk bard (enigma muse) with the Fortune Teller background and Harrower archetype.

And a battle lute. For, you know, reasons. 😎

Classes are about permission.
Disciplines are about approach.

Fatesong has no classes. It’s a narrative-first TTRPG where who you are is defined by how you do things, not what box you picked at character creation

I wrote about this properly here:

Two Evades. That’s all you get.

In Fatesong, you don’t have hit points.
You have two chances to avoid meaningful harm before the next hit puts you on the ground.

Combat should be fast, dangerous, and something characters survive — not something they grind through.

Classes are built around permission: what you can do and what you can’t.
I think characters are more interesting when you start somewhere else entirely — not what you do, but how you do it.

Wrote about this today.

I've been building a TTRPG for two years because I was sick of spell slots telling me I couldn't be the character I wanted to be at the wrong moment.

First post on what I did about it. 👇

Elves. Potentially immortal.

Vulnerable to injury, ageless after maturity.

The catch:

Every 100 years, an Elf has to undergo a ritual to prune away memories. Without it, the past becomes as vivid as the present.

Living forever has maintenance costs.

Three quick questions about characters in Fatesong.

Who you are matters.

How you became that person matters more.

DISCIPLINE #1 — IRON DOCTRINE

No flourish. No performance.

Iron Doctrine doesn't care whether you were impressive.

It cares whether you were still standing when everyone else wasn't.

Endurance. Formation. The wall that doesn't move.

Fatesong is a narrative TTRPG built from scratch. Fiction first. No spell slots. No rigid classes. A system where the story never stops to check a number.

Fatesong: First Verse, the Level 1 edition, is now published.

This is only the beginning.

Spell: SHADOW REBIRTH

Life ends. The shadow does not.

You sacrifice a small living creature. The body dies. Its shadow rises — ink-winged, ember-eyed, bound to you.

It is not a companion. It is what remains.

In Fatesong, injuries matter.

Powerful magic can leave scars. Dark abilities can change you.

And sometimes the cost of surviving a fight is something you carry for the rest of the campaign.

ANCESTRY: BORBOR

Small. Strong. They live underground and burrow deep tunnels between their settlements.

Most never come up.

The ones who do are blinded by open sky for days. Sometimes weeks.

Some go back down. The most interesting ones stay anyway.

The Felari always land on their feet from up to 50 feet. No roll. No damage. Just a landing.
That part everyone likes.
Here's the other part. Felari have a powerful biological compulsion to investigate anything unusual.
They're not reckless. They just can't always stop.

CANDLE OF UNEASE

Flame leans toward guilt.

A lit candle flickers violently when someone nearby is hiding strong fear or malicious intent.

It does not tell you who.

A murder mystery with no dungeons. No armies. Just a village, a murder, and the slow realisation that you never should have come here.

Everyone in Duncraig is Lying is out now for Fatesong.

Something is very wrong in this village.
