I should say something coherent. But instead I'm just flailing around my house because FATHOMFOLK got shortlisted for Best Fantasy Novel AND Best Newcomer for the British Fantasy Awards! 😱@britfantasysoc.bsky.social

As the first in the Drowned World duology I loved this book for the conversations it has surrounding not just Asian diaspora but the wealth gap in general. Truly an excellent series and highly recommend it!

Fathomfolk, Drowned World book 1 by Eliza Chan
Please note this review was originally written several years ago and has not been edited. Tiankawi is an island, an experiment really and a beacon of hope for many that the Fathomfolk and humans can coexist peacefully, that can help each of not just survive but maybe even thrive in a world where most land has been covered in water. Unfortunately for the Fathomfolk in Tiankawi the great experiment has become a pipe dream.

I might have a new favourite review of Fathomfolk. 😅🥰
10: Fathomfolk by @elizachanwrites.bsky.social. Oh god oh fuck. Gutwrenching, breathtaking urban fantasy novel about privilege, systemic violence, racism, diaspora, radicalisation and revolution. I’m shaking in the wake of this one. Utterly gripping, equal parts beautiful and horrifying. Obsessed.

I’ve been meaning to restart this for forever and it’s finally time!

Fathomfolk is an excellent novel, a story which encloses a big metaphor for immigration, discrimination and xenophobia; a solid debut by @elizachanwrites.bsky.social that I cannot recommend enough.

Sometimes releasing a sequel feels like shouting into a void. Very glad for this great review 🤗 (contains some spoilers for Fathomfolk and the beginning of Tideborn)

I loved Eliza Chan's Drowned World duology, Fathomfolk and Tideborn, they're great!

Fathomfolk and Tideborn are excellent, by the way. Everyone should read them, especially given current events. Sea creatures and humans trying to live together in Tiankawi; facing rising tensions, revolution, fear of marginalised folk in a fantastical ESEA-inspired backdrop. Also, dragons.
What a time to be writing fantasy about immigrants being treated as scapegoats and the rise of populist politics...

What a book launch! It was an absolute whirlwind last night but I enjoyed every minute, even if I'm now paranoid I wrote gibberish when signing books. Fathomfolk is out in the US and Australia NOW, the UK tomorrow 🎉

Fathomfolk by Eliza Chan. Merfolk and humans live uneasily side-by-side in a flooded world.

Traveling this weekend, so I came well-prepared: Fathomfolk by Eliza Chan, Everfair by Nisi Shawl, and The Spice Gate by Prashanth Srivatsa.
I'm in the middle of the latest Evander Mills mystery from Lev AC Rosen [queer historical (SF 1950s) series starting with The Lavender House]. What are you all reading these days?
