Favorite plant of 2026 ... probably this Field Cow-wheat on the Isle of Wight this summer. Those colours! #FavouritePlants #wildflowerhour

One of my #FavouritePlants: Field Gentian (Gentianella campestris), photographed on the #Donegal coast.
The roots of other #GentianFamily members are used to make digestive bitters (think Aperol & pink gin) & field gentian was once used for similar purposes @bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour

Zygaena filipendulae, Six-spot burnet, on Knautia arvensis L., Field Scabious, because it provides pollen and nectar over a long season, and plays host to party time for many invertebrates. #FavouritePlants #WildflowerHour

Primula farinosa L, Birdseye Primrose, at Ashberry. A simple case of total adoration from the emergence in April of tiny, tight rosettes clothed in farina, to that day at the very end of May, for the sheer joy of witnessing its spread ... a very good year

Because it fringes northern woodlands like a petticoat, and spangles spring hedgerows with beauty, & host literally hundreds of inverts. And because the blue, bloomed fruits make sloe gin, and gin references remind me of @naturelark.bsky.social I don't know why. 🤭

Parnassia palustris L, Grass of Parnassus, simply because of breath-taking beauty, but also for the reminder of a day spent at Sefton Dunes, with friends, fuelled by fancy chocolate and gin ... the absolute best way to do botany

#FavouritePlants ##WildflowerHour Not *wild* strictly speaking, but I think it's this geranium. I was just delighted it has now decided to thrive in my garden, having arrived out of the blue. Bees love it too 👍🙂🐝

Favourite plant this year was Herniaria glabra (Smooth Ruturewort). A small and insignificant plant which repays patient scrutiny along the forest rides on the Norfolk Brecks, looking carefully for the acid green patches of this plant. Such a bonus if you find it!

This summer I've been lucky to spend quite a bit of time surveying meadows in Cambridgeshire and Oxfordshire - one of my favourite habitats with many of my #favouriteplants - though very little shade available!
