New discovery, courtesy of the Großeltern: Miniature lye sticks (i.e. unrolled pretzels), as snacks for the kids.

For maximum stereotypical germannness, consider serving with malt beer.

Photograph of a bag of baby snacks that are "Mini-Bio-Laugenstangen", i.e. unrolled mini pretzels for your baby. In reality there is a thin veneer of lye on hard baked crunchy stuff, no salt. Presumably goes well with malt beer, who knows. Toddler loved them in any case.
