Does *anyone* remember FenPhen!? (Fenfluramine/phentermine)
I know plenty of people who take these meds and some who have had results they enjoy, but I also know people who said the same thing about fenphen when that was a thing and now they have heart failure so🤷♂️
(also this is not addressing the use in diabetics, though that usually comes w/ fatphobia too)

I remember fenphen very well and I agree with you that fat people are devalued and dehumanized. Thank you for your activism.

a few months ago i wound up talking about this in mixed company and encountered someone who was like “well the short term benefits of weight loss are good and known so maybe we shouldn’t worry about little understood long term issues” AFTER i brought up fenphen, which they had never heard of

I've had stright sized people ask me if I'm going to go on the new weight loss drug, and I just gotta fight not to remind them that fenphen was also a miricle weight loss drug, but I force myself to say "maybe after a few years after release when longer term results are known." politely.

Im mixed on them bc I think they’ve been suggested to be useful in other health cases beyond diabetes- but they are Absolutrly being used as diet drugs furst and foremost and I worry about fenphen 2 type outcomes in the future

Fenphen was its own mess, but I think the fact that fenphen got pulled in 97 made it much easier to go after ephedra (in the herbal, unregulated formats especially) and ephedrine (as a meth ingredient) in 2002-6.
Fenphen caused major damage, especially pulmonary hypertension, which is HARD to catch.

God and given what we know about it now... quick question have you been monintored for heart problems/had any heart problems since? fenphen pretty infamously put some people at risk of PAH, which is normally a super rare type of pulmonary hypertension and other valvular disease.

As an on and off fatso myself, I usually gain 25lbs, cut carbs and begin exercising for 4-5 mos. Then gain it all back over a couple of years, repeat. Seems everything has a cost. Whether Ozempic, FenPhen, Meth or sticking a finger down your throat....never seems to be without consequences.
