Eight Forest Grove FFA members made an Oct. 19-24 trip to the 99th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, and two of them, sisters Aubrey and Aleta Wang, competed in the National FFA Talent Competition. The Wang sisters auditioned to sing and play the banjo in the competition and were among 52 chosen to perform out of 150 applicants, said Jami Duyck, who teaches agricultural science and metals manufacturing at the Forest Grove High School and is the chapter's FFA advisor. They performed several bluegrass and country songs, including "When You Say Nothing at All" and "Deeper Than the Holler," Duyck said in an email. "Hopefully we are energized for future competitions and the students who went will be able to motivate and inspire other members of the chapter to be involved and participate in leadership development events," Duyck said. Along with Aubrey and Aleta Wang, the chapter sent Takaeo Verlinden, Jax Marino, Luke Flowers, Dean Garcia, Ali Agalzoff and Bella Juenemann. Besides cheering on the Wang sisters, the students attended leadership sessions, workshops and the convention's career expo, Duyck said. They also went sightseeing and toured Ozark Fisheries and the Indianapolis Zoo.
