FF7 honestly kind of really lets you get away with just pressing the smack button and getting a bigger stick most of the way through, FFL2 really kicks you in the teeth unless you know how to build and maximize your party at least a little

3. Final Fantasy Legend 2

FFVII introduced me to RPGs but FFL2 showed me why to get really sickos about it. I guess all that contemporary haterade about ff7 being the baby game for casuals had some truth to it lol

As is playthrough tradition, I named the party after my favorite anime girls atm

Final Fantasy 6 seems redundant with FFL2 for genre impact, but it was how I really bonded with my best childhood friend.

We are still friends 30 years later, and text almost every day. I shared this site with him, actually.

Looks like I'm doing FFL2 "Dadless%" in the final QfG event. The whole idea is to have a route that shows off how cool the Mutant / Esper class is, and that uses the Trash Can glitch, which is pretty infamous but not in any major category routes. tinyurl.com/QFG9Games

Also FFL2 Dad is a bad dad.

Hey, I've seen you sharing a bunch of Saga content lately, and I am curious: What Saga game would you recommend for a newcomer? We have several, but I'm worried they're too esoteric/difficult for me.

I'm thinking of trying FFL2 soon because I've always wanted to try it, so we'll see how that goes.

I remember seeing FFL2 amongst my godfather’s Gameboy games. He had everything in pristine condition. He let me borrow it and it was one of the best games I ever played. I liked it more than Dragon Warrior 2 for the NES.

today i just learned that martial arts moves in FFL2 / SaGa 2 get stronger with the less uses they have remaining and i might have one-shot a boss

They are definitely dated by modern standards, but they were pure dopamine to a child that could have a whole RPG world in his or her pocket at that time. FFL2 has a great soundtrack, interesting worlds, and lots of cool mechanics. I love how each world feels compartmentalized as its own scenario.

Oh, that makes sense! I actually like the simple boxart for FFL2 because I remember opening that up one Christmas morning and it ended up being my favorite GameBoy game, haha, although I do wish they would have continued the style of the first one because that boxart is so peak.

Mystic Quest was prolly my first FF too, bc I cant count FFL2 (that's SaGa lol)

Mystic Quest still holds up ngl, love the OST and the enemy designs.

My friend Jono Bacon made a fun, informative video titled "Linux 35 years in 35 facts." Enjoy!

This bit of Doc's article is very illustrative of why I think the encounter rate is too high. Because there's really interesting things going on with the story in FFL2, but then the chain of events gets too polluted by constant battles.

Hmmm...

Little did I know last night's FFL2 stream was secretly Metal Monday.

the first FFL is almost primordial but I believe FFL2 introduces more of the core Saga series mechanics, so hopefully that'll be more interesting

definitely looking forward to Secret and SD3 for sure

I'm toying with playing FFL2 soon. Read about it in Nintendo Power as a kid and always thought it sounded neat.

Just bear in mind that it's the very, VERY first SaGa game in disguise (Square thought that giving it the FF title would boost its appeal in the West.) Leveling up your party is REALLY obtuse in that every playable race has its own way of leveling. It's not a bad game but weird; FFL2 is WONDERFUL.

You want a challenge?

- Play FFL2.
- Make your entire party Robots atthe start.
- Breeze through 90% of the game.
- Suddenly encounter a ton of magic users all at once, all of a sudden (the Robot's Achilles Heel).
- Struggle your way to the final boss, attempt to defeat it 30+ times, give up.

FFL2 is busted but in a really fun way, absolutely the series high point

I still have my 30+ year old save file for ffl2. It's a WEIRD one, mechanically

SaGa 2 (FFL2) for GB, Link's Awakening DX for GBC, and probably FFTA for GBA!

FFL2 knew that if you give the player a once per game heavy ordinance it better outpace anything else you give them!
