Everything is a pulp fiction monologue to him.
Trump on DC: "One of my top people got killed waiting for his wife to come out of an office building, bring her home. And this guy comes up and wants the car and shoots him right through the head. Dead."

Trump half-remembering the first scene in PULP FICTION
Trump on DC: "Nobody wanted to eat out. They were afraid. Even if you were in the restaurant, people would walk in and like the Wild West, 'Hold it up!' Everybody is standing there. Can you imagine? A fancy restaurant. They were robbing the whole restaurant. It's crazy."

Trump: "In Washington, all the restaurants were closing. People were being held up. They'd walk into a restaurant. Like Jesse James. 'Stand up! Give us all your money.' They're eating dinner at a fancy restaurant. All the restaurants were closing."

I just saw Project Hail Mary recently.

It's really, really good. Intelligent and fun science fiction, a great popcorn movie.

*I blame science fiction dystopias
it’s amazing how these billionaire tech freaks *love* mainstream sci-fi and superhero movies, and also manage to completely miss the incredibly unsubtle and heavy-handed “we need to protect human creativity and freedom” moral that essentially all those movies are imbued with
What’s wrong with all these rich tech guys that they watched every future dystopian movie and were like “yeah that, let’s do that”

The best science fiction - indeed all fiction - is about speculation, not prediction. Not 'this is what will happen' but 'what would happen if?' The possibilities are endless.
Prediction is hard. Especially about the future. That Yogi Berra gem proves that you don't have to be a sf writer to get irritated with people insisting that you must know what's going to happen tomorrow, but (as a sf writer), I can tell you that this is one of our main occupational hazards.

this is diagonal to the point of this thread, but it's something i've been thinking abt for a while:

i think a not insignificant amount of Modern Problems stem at least partially from people not being okay with fiction being fiction. fiction being entertainment, and not a blueprint for reality.
VR like in sci-fi isn't gonna happen, bcz people's bodies and physical space still factor into how these technologies can actually be used.

turns out there is basically a limit on how much stuff "a phone" can be & do, that people will actually use it for.

this is why everything is gambling now.
