Took an extended lunch break today to enjoy the #autumn colours before the coming winds and rain blow the foliage away.
The river Wear in the #Durham area is lovely in any season, but particularly so in elusive autumn sunshine. 😊

The remains of the chapter house exterior at Finchale Priory in County Durham. Situated on the banks of the River Wear, the priory was found in the late 12th century on the site of the hermitage of St Godric. 📸 My own. #WallsOnWednesday #FinchalePriory #CountyDurham

A trip to #FinchalePriory today, located in a bend on the river Wear to the east of Durham. Rather Gothic. Very frosty; and the sound of the river could be heard everywhere. 😊 #CountyDurham

Yesterday went back to #FinchalePriory to show Mr M the autumn foliage before it is all blown off the trees.

#FinchalePriory #CountyDurham Grade II* Listed Finchale Abbey Farmhouse County Durham photographed 13th August 2026.

Adjacent to the 13th century ruins of Finchale Priory, the structure dates back to the 1200s with significant rebuilding and additions taking place around 1700.
