Last Winter a yellow-browed warbler was found at St.Albans. Whilst twitching it I saw this beautiful firecrest in the holly nearby. Hard to catch as constantly feeding but I got one or two keepers!

Scillies day 2. Got a boat over to St Agnes and Gugh; saw the upland sandpiper and red-backed shrike, plus a lesser emperor dragonfly. Then back on St Mary’s saw 9 cattle egret and a firecrest.

Came across several small flocks of Crossbill Redpoll Siskin Tits and Goldcrest on a local forestry walk yesterday. Highlight was finding two Firecrest my first in the Valley for several years. #birdsseenin2026 #birds

I spotted a Goldcrest in the garden on the way out yesterday morning so it was a nice surprise to see a Firecrest turn up for a wash in the garden bin lid bird bath. 🙂

This charming little Firecrest is why I do bird ringing. Just over 5g in weight but a bundle of energy. It's a male in its first year, probably bred about 200 yards from where it was caught in West Beckham

I would have been super excited if it had been a Firecrest! Firecrests have a black eye-stripe, so I'm pretty confident this is a Goldcrest. The males do have some orange feathers in the centre of their crown.
