Okay, so a Flatpak update & some fiddling around in Flatseal later and Steam seems happy to use my GPU again. No more slideshow games, phew.

Ok, so this issue is solved - turns out the flatpak of OBS was causing memory leaks.
No test stream tonight, will resume streaming tomorrow afternoon!

(Under the hood, `sys-update` runs `sudo apt update`, `sudo apt upgrade -y`, and `sudo apt autoremove -y`, then `npm update -g` and `flatpak update -y`. Updates system packages, removes unused dependencies, and updates global JavaScript tools and Flatpak apps. Stops if anything fails.)

I can see why a lot of arch people hate flatpak - I can't install an essential OBS plugin for accessibility - the cloud captioning one - because the creator can't be arsed to make a fix for Linux flatpak - closest they get is ubuntu and windows. So reconfiguring OBS from arch package from scratch

I can see why a lot of arch people hate flatpak - I can't install an essential OBS plugin for accessibility - the cloud captioning one - because the creator can't be arsed to make a fix for Linux flatpak - closest they get is ubuntu and windows. So reconfiguring OBS from arch package from scratch

I wonder what will happen when these two worlds inevitably collide? We already see that most modern "agentic" software - e.g. Claude Desktop - no longer uses Flatpak.

I think it's interesting that in the filesystem, Flatpak directories are named tld.domain.Appname
e.g.: md.discordapp.Discord

i just realized i had the flatpak version of discord installed (for some reason??? ) which may have contributed to my stream woes but it should still fucking work cause it did before and they broke it

Belle trouvaille ! L'absence de root est un vrai plus pour la sécurité. L'usage de proot/Flatpak est idéal pour la productivité mobile. Pensez à vérifier régulièrement les permissions !

I decided on Cachy (switched from Mint), as the immutable OS would have annoyed me as someone who uses their PC for a lot more than just gaming. Not everything is, or should be, a Flatpak. I don't regret it so far but depends on how comfortable you are with Linux. It's still Arch based in the end.

FYI you can adjust flatpak sandbox permissions using flatseal, and I think KDE has a GUI for it as well? but I’ve never tried that. or you can use 'flatpak override' if you are so inclined.
