Heiankyo Alien is an odd take on a maze game, where you dig holes to trap aliens, then bury them alive.

an Arranged version of the game - with updated gameplay, visuals, and audio - can be found on Steam, packaged with a port of the original store.steampowered.com/app/690710/

Another #pixelart #floppydisk #shmup; this time it's Lethal Xcess - AKA Wings of Death 2 - for the ST and Amiga. This game's soundtrack was created by Jochen Hippel, and he did just a tremendous job with it.
pixel art of a blue 3½ inch floppy disk for Lethal Xcess. The game's logo is printed in yellow, with a couple of white streaks to suggest a golden shine. The design is very angular, with a prominent letter X dominating the left, and several letters adopting a notable 45-degree slant, often shared with their neighbors to some extent. Below the logo is the following text in white: Amiga / Atari ST Disk A © 1991 Eclipse Software

This Wolf3D disk is total mismatch, in so many different ways. Looks alright, though.
Given the deliberate inaccuracies, I felt compelled to rework my previous Aardwolf disk to accompany it.

Along the bottom, from left to right, are logos for FormGen, Apogee, and Id Software Inc. the Wolfenstein logo is comprised of very square, blocky letters and some 45-degree angles. It's colored red toward the bottom and grey toward the top, with some black at at the middle and the very top. pixel art of a red 3½ inch floppy disk with a white label, printed with a red triangle pointing down and yellow text on-top, which reads 'Call GT Interactive' and 'Say "Aardvark"'.

Here's a #pixelart #floppydisk or two, representing old shareware disks to varying degrees of accuracy.

the roguelike Castle of the Winds has an upcoming remake on Steam.

the platformer Duke Nukem 2 has been removed from most storefronts, apart from Zoom Platform.
pixel art of a black 3½ inch floppy disk for Castle of the Winds. Atop the white label is a grey circle and a red banner, with the former containing a pyramid with a shining light at the top. Below that is the game's title, written out in tall, black, serifed lettering with drop-shadows. pixel art of a black 3½ floppy disk for Duke Nukem Ⅱ. the white label bears a tall black rectangle at the top left, and grey diagonal stripes of varying lengths, moving left and down from the right edge. at the top is a red star and the words Micro Star is red, scifi text. below that is the following thee lines: Duke Nukem II type MS and press ENTER FREE CATALOG at the bottom are two phone numbers - one toll-free, the other in the 619 area code - but the digits are small and indistinct.

Oddly, I didn't like Master Blazer as much as I did the original BallBlazer. I think it comes down to the graphics - MB's sprites are a lot more detailed and greebley, but they don't scale smoothly like BB's simpler designs did.
#pixelart #floppydisk #atarist #atari7800 #ballblazer
pixel art of a blue 3½ inch floppy disk with a black label. In big scifi lettering drawn in blue and orange edge highlights is the title "Master Blazer". Below that, in white text, is "ATARI ST • Disk 1", "Boot disk to start", and "c 1990 Rainbow Arts". pixel art of an Atari 7800 Ballblazer cartridge. The top-right corner has a yellow triangle with some indistinct message, while the main artwork is a shot of two Rotofoils upon a checkerboard playfield, with the perspective placed halfway-behind one of them. A trail follows from the distant 'Foil to an approaching Plasmorb, suggesting the opponent has just launched the ball towards us.

Captain Blood was a wild game. I loved the title music, the fractal landscape flyovers, and the emoji-adjacent UPCOM communications system.
#pixelart #floppydisk #atarist
pixel art of a blue 3½ inch floppy disk with a white label, reading "Captain Blood", "Exxos", "Atari ST", and several further lines too small to read, all in black. The Exxos logo is accompanied by a monochrome graphic of a wicked, grinning face on a pyramid. A diamond-shaped headpiece makes up the top of the pyramid, and three horizontal lines overlap the pyramid and the empty space, but don't interrupt the face.

Experimented with suggesting a brushed-metal texture on this disk label. Not sure it was effective, but it provides some visual interest to otherwise-empty areas without being too distracting.
Maybe I should've also put some on the shutter?
#pixelart #floppydisk #termimator @bitmapbureau.com
pixel art of a blue 3½ inch floppy disk with a grey label, reading "Terminator 2D — No Fate". The two lines of text are divided by a horizontal line of black and of white, suggesting shadow and highlight for the edges of two separate, adjoining plates. To the bottom left is a the Cyberdyne emblem (a wide triangle with its hypotenuse down on the horizontal, divided into three pieces: the left, the right, and a diamond from the top), raised with a drop-shadow. To the bottom right is the Bitmap Bureau logo in black. Above and below the game title's are several short horizontal lines, each in black or white and dithered toward the ends, attempting to depict a brushed-metal texture.

Unlike ChoRenSha and Warning Forever, Devil Blade Reboot isn't a freebie. It is well worth the purchase, however; designer Shigatake and musician Hasu both did great work here.
