Legend is female Druids of the county did not disappear during Roman occupation, but instead melded with the forests to become its Green Ladies, its Moss Maidens. A historian will tell you this is nonsense. A folklorist will merely tell you stories hold impossible truths. - #CLNolan #FolkloreFriday

To know a pond is some 30-foot at its deepest, has a surface area of nearly 12 hectacres is thing. To know it has pike another. However, only with a layer of folkloric knowing comes the wisdom and wonder that it's home to a Stay Below. – #CLNolan #FolkloreFriday

This "vlizotrap" is a Dutch device traditionally used to manage population size. Once a year, usually in the summer, every Dutch person completes the challenge of using this extendable stepladder to fetch camping equipment from the attic. Those who are too old or unhandy die trying. #FolkloreFriday

Dutch people always sit in a circle at birthday parties. The circle keeps getting bigger, until you can only speak to the person on either side of you. No one knows why. It is one of life's great mysteries. #FolkloreFriday

For #FolkloreFriday we’re celebrating the winter solstice - the shortest day of the year, but also when days start growing longer again.

In daze of yore, Fridays were considered unlucky
The Faeries were at their most potent
A journey should not be undertaken
Nor should the making of a dress begin
A new job would be short lived
And heaven help you if you spilled the salt.....#folklorefriday

It's #FolkloreFriday 🐱 The cat in Celtic mythology was never simply a pet. It moved between worlds, guarded thresholds, and knew things it had no natural means of knowing. The folklore didn't find this surprising, and neither should we.

It's #folklorefriday and all this month we will be covering tales from Appalachia.

We'll be looking at ghost stories, strange creatures, cursed towns, and even a cryptid or two.

But let's start with some background information about Appalachia itself.

Part One: In honor of Krampusnacht, lets delve into one of the potential pagan origins for Krampus- The Percht.

Thank you to @rottenartist.bsky.social for the Krampus footage at the end!
