Rainforests produce oxygen, store carbon, and protect water;
gold does none of that!

Biodiversity. Habitat conservation. Carbon sequestration. All are interconnected. Scientists have learned that animals in the forest environment are essential for dispersing seeds, which accelerates growth and greater carbon storage.

We often think of trees when we think of forest carbon, but look down. 👇
Half of the roughly 771 billion tonnes stored in forests is held in the soil. Disturbing the forest floor means releasing this ancient carbon. Saving forests means saving their roots, their fungi, and their dirt.

We advocate for the removal of all livestock from public lands. A healthy prairie will store almost as much carbon as a forest. Cattle are an invasive species and graze very differently than the native species here in North America, destroying the terrestrial carbon sinks.

Carbon Capture Won’t Save Us Anytime Soon
A new U.N. climate report says that massive amounts of carbon capture and storage can keep a long-shot climate goal within reach. But nobody should be counting on it.

As Chantal Hébert said, folks are missing the climate forest for the pipeline trees.

Carney rolled back major climate policies for Alberta, now! In exchange for a lil industrial carbon price increase and the BS that is carbon capture!

Forgetting the pipeline, this is BAD for the climate crisis!
I'm not convinced that wasn't Carney's plan all along. It isn't Ottawa that said no to Alberta. "Now you run along, Danielle, and make friends and get it done." Oh wait, you can't? Oh well then, at least you tried.

Many people scrape away the green layers growing on trees and rocks, but moss is an incredibly valuable ally for healthy air. Moss actively filters particulate pollution from the air, captures atmospheric carbon, and provides a crucial microhabitat for countless small insects.

Open The Tongass to roads and logging and you don’t “manage” it….you flip it from carbon sink to carbon source. From old growth to degradation.

Once that happens, there is no restoration timeline that matters.

This matters because industry stakeholders are pushing an accounting rule that would assign carbon removals to forest harvests and wood consumption.

That's the opposite of what happens in physical reality. Forest harvests cause emissions, not removals.

When fires burn hot enough, they go past the trees and into the ancient peat and soil layers underneath, releasing centuries of stored carbon in a single season and pushing the forest from net absorber to net emitter.

Trees absorb carbon dioxide—a primary driver of climate change—and convert it into oxygen, which is essential for life on Earth. A single mature tree can produce enough oxygen to sustain two to four people daily. Just imagine the impact of a tree-lined avenue, a park, or an urban forest.

Canadian fires in 2023 released more carbon than every country but US/China/India.
