First queen Garden bumblebee (Bombus hortorum) of the year - forgaging on our Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum)

This species has the longest tongue of any UK bumblebee, and is the bee you need pollinate your beans!

Went for a little forage in the woods this morning. Didn't find a great deal - spring still a good few weeks away in this part of the world, despite the sunshine 😁

The idea that Patrick might one day have to put out a short and solemn episode in the Remap feed about how they're pausing the show while they mourn the loss of Rob via forgaging is admittedly a little funny

I think this is a black- shouldered
drone fly (Eristalis dimidiata) - forgaging on zinnias #Invert (ID correction is welcome. This is a syrphid aka flower fly or hover fly. These are important non-bee complementary pollinators. Their larval stages are proficient predators on aphids, etc.

As a beekeeper you can provision honeybees for lean times. Wild bees don't get that. Anybody wanting to save native pollinators should grow flowers/continuous forage. I routinely see 10-12 species or so of native bees in my garden in a year, co-forgaging.

That's good. Robin's usually stick to forgaging on the ground.

Interesting feeder. How often do you have to fill it?
