But the top-rated Comedy Central shows were all left leaning, or at least anti-right: South Park, Colbert, Stewart, Chapelle. So while its function as a behavioral formator was not stereotypically "woke" or left-wing, its political orientation was.

I'm so glad I'm done with seminary because I would bash my head into a wall if I had to hear my formator talk about how great this is

A retired priest, a seminary formator, a director of ongoing priestly formation, reminded me that a priest obsessively preaching, speaking, or dominating a conversation over one hot-topic issue either is projecting, hiding something, or loves his own voice.

And I actually think, re: Colbert, there's something fascinating to observe in the evolution of Comedy Central as "political formator". The vast majority of their content back then was misogynistic, crude, and politically incorrect. Think "Jackass" and "The Man Show" (ft. Joe Rogan, incidentally).

The yeti oath had me looking through conversations about my old formator. When he threatened to fail me because he didn't see the assignment I attached to an email. When he demanded the rest of the semester's work be done by the end of March because of COVID (and I got the dean to drop the paper)

I have so many questions after reading this but first of all is why/how can a 35 year old be a spiritual formator for seminarians? Like you’d think you’d want men with years and years of proven spiritual maturity and wisdom. Not a 10 year old priest www.pillarcatholic.com/p/yeti-blood...

He's Barron before Barron, but more folksy in his collaboration with the right wing media machine. Seminary formator showed my class a segment of him on Fox & Friends as an example of a good PR face to emulate. The segment in question was about a priest denying communion to a pro choice politician

My favorite part is where everyone was like "Oh he's such a good priest and formator, I can't believe he's done this,"
And then not more than a few paragraphs later they're like, "the new guy though, he's such a good priest and formator, he'll fix everything!"

But no, I have my own Roman Catholic seminarian I must write an evaluation of. And then in two weeks I do a four-way meeting with him, his formator, and his field ed theological reflection instructor.

I know a guy who's doing well enough in ministry, he argued for blood libel in class, TO A FORMATOR PROFESSOR, while he was trying to teach about how "the Jews" in Acts is not a pejorative that applies to all Jewish people. How that was handled, idk, but of course that's not something he's changed

Yeah... I mean, there is a reason why most formator workshops use the 4 dimension model of formation: human, intellectual, spiritual, and communal. All are operating in such religious circles.
