A panoramic view of Fort Custer Recreation Area in Augusta, Michigan, showing a calm river or lake at sunset surrounded by dense autumn foliage. Trees in vivid shades of red, orange, yellow, and green line both banks, their colors mirrored clearly in the still water. The sky is pale blue fading toward dusk, and scattered fallen leaves float on the water’s surface. Grasses and plants frame the lower right edge of the scene, adding a natural foreground to the peaceful fall landscape.

Wide view of the Kalamazoo River in Fort Custer Recreation Area during late autumn. The river is calm and reflective, mirroring the bare and nearly leafless trees that line both banks. A few remaining yellow and brown leaves cling to the branches, while more are scattered on the ground and in the shallow water near the shore. The trees arch slightly over the river, creating a natural corridor that draws the eye into the distance. The sky is overcast with a blanket of pale gray clouds, giving the scene a quiet, muted tone. The overall mood is peaceful and still, capturing the quiet transition between fall and winter.

A straight-down aerial view of a dirt road winding through dense autumn woods in Fort Custer Recreation Area in Augusta, Michigan. The trees are in full fall color—rich yellows, oranges, and some remaining green—interspersed with a few bare branches. The road cuts diagonally through the frame beneath the canopy, partly hidden by fallen leaves and soft evening light. The image was taken by drone (Autel EVO Lite+), capturing the warm glow of golden hour across the treetops.

Seasonal abandonment.
Fort Custer Recreation Area, Augusta, Michigan

#photography #fortcusterrecreationarea #michigan #fall #autumn
A wide autumn landscape at Fort Custer Recreation Area, showing an empty grassy field under a dramatic, overcast sky. Three identical black posts stand across the foreground, each topped with a small white sign reading “Concession Employees Only.” In the distance near the shoreline is the closed concession stand—a long, low brick building with a green metal roof—sitting quiet beside the lake. The surrounding trees are in late fall colors of muted gold, orange, and rust. The absence of people and the out-of-season signs create a still, slightly desolate atmosphere as winter approaches.
