Or alternatively using ranked choice or instant run offs to eliminate FPP.

I hope the dead had fun last night.

If I have to vote under a FPP system I’m instigating a millennial riot absolutely the fuck not.

Did we ever do an FPP on dumplings around the world?

Mostly. Still
Living expenses but yeah, the FPP goes BRRRRRRRRT

The new @harmanphoto.co.uk @ilfordphoto.com “Griffin” colour film sounds very exciting - listening to the FPP discussion….. think there has been a delay though ?

Anyone know any more ?

96 was also crucial though for a different reason: the chance to have something different from FPP. Not my first choice which would have been an STV-oriented system but a change nonetheless at least from elected dictatorships.

Then spent the last 30+ years using FPP politics in an MMP system. Sigh.

Anyway used FPP-110 for the first time. 15ml +460ml ~67F, generous 7 min (timer started and stopped after pouring), agitated each minute. Looks good on the HP5plus so far. Digitize late tonight.

Even in FPP days, they’d trot out Laura Norder. Yet under MMP she hasn’t even made the list, despite all her appearances. 🙄

And honestly, small overhangs don't really matter - the solution is worse than the disease.

When we're looking at 8 seat overhangs for big parties, because the electorate / list ratio was set in the FPP-era then its a different, bigger problem.

I’m old enough to have voted in a FPP system and being at home with parents who voted under that system and remember the anger when a party - usually National - would get a majority of seats with a minority of total votes.

If you didn't vote early...vote tomorrow! Let's turn this country around. Shot on a roll of Svema Blue 6. You can easily handhold a camera with ISO 6 film on a sunny day.

Multiple parties at substantial share helps just so so so much.

And it's basically structurally impossible (or so disfavored that it might as well be) when the voting structure is FPP.

If they win they are going to try to go back to FPP A
October 27, 2026 at 9:13 PM
(Similarly, a NACTF regime could simply eliminate or massively reduce list seats and effectively restore FPP with a single law passed under urgency, no referendum required. The reason they don't is because there'd be riots in the streets)

That is worse than FPP.

@jennifilm.nz And folks have an understanding of it with local elections - that was the main obstacle back in a FPP world, it was just too much for most folks to get their heads round.
Rank the candidates, pick the party - the time is now
November 3, 2026 at 3:14 AM
How about only getting party votes? Parties have their candidates and the party that gets the largest share of the party vote gets their candidate elected as the constituant MP. This eliminates vote splitting and keeps proportionality nationally. It’s similar to the FPP everyone still thinks we use.

Thank you for explaining!

I guess this was intended. A built-in bias towards the bigger parties, for the sake of stability. So maybe this is not so much a problem but just the system working as designed?

Sidebar: maybe we should elect electorates with STV (or similar), rather than FPP!
