I had heard Ed Litton had a serious injury after crashing on his bicycle; I hadn't heard he had passed. This man was a treasure.

Just got my 1974 Schwinn Paramount back from Chris Kvale, who did an absolutely remarkable job. Hard to believe this is the same bike.

I have spent an inordinate amount on this. Hoping it cures n+1 for a year or two. #BikeSky

If I'm a framebuilder for a bicycle company and we go on strike, *how* do the frames I build for myself "provide labor" for the company?

It's the exact same way for coding. If I'm on strike at codemongers, inc, the work I do on discount does not in any way provide labor for codemongers, inc.

Overdue update: picked the frame up today from local framebuilder Chris Kvale, who repainted the top tube with vintage Imron paint. I think it looks perfect and it was a real pleasure to meet Chris and see his shop. Not many artisans like him left.

Who is the spirit of gravel? What is a gravel bike? Where is gravel? Why gravel? I really don't know, and I don't think I could stomach it if I found out.

I first met Joe some time in 1986 or so. I had written a letter to Bill Holland asking to become an apprentice framebuilder - he never replied. I found their workshop and visited. It was insanity to my over-eager 16yr old brain. Decades later, I stood in Joe's paint booth and just sat in the space.

Legendary framebuilder, inventor, and mountainbiker Charlie Cunningham, "the guy who would have invented the bicycle if it hadn't been invented already", died last week.

Here's an interview Grant Peterson did with Charlie, published in the Rivendell Reader:

We were walking along the Kamo River and were half surprised to see an extremely well dressed guy on a Rivendell Platypus come up the path. He recommended a great bike shop in Kyoto, and I recommend this 2024 profile of Grant Petersen, framebuilder, inspiration: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
The Art of Taking It Slow
Contemporary cycling is all about spandex and personal bests. The bicycle designer Grant Petersen has amassed an ardent following by urging people to get comfortable bikes, and go easy.

Then a competitor (who is now a well known and highly regarded framebuilder) made fun of my bike on the start line for, among other things, having plastic shifters.

This was my introduction to the inclusive, welcoming world of MTB racing. I did not stay more than a few years.
