Happy to be at BYU at the invitation of my @scholarlykitchen.bsky.social colleague, collaborator, and friend, BYU University Liberian Rick Anderson. But first some freaks! Front Range Early American Consortium (freac) meets today and I’m excited to hear some great work and see new and old friends.

What I do is download songs in flac format and use freac to convert all the songs in the album to aac at once, then just drag the output folder into itunes

ngl i was using Windows Media Player but I think Microsoft killed the server they were using to tag music so I moved to Freac then double checking the metadata with MusicBrainz Picard

fre:ac was good last I used it. Once you pick what settings you like, it can eject the disk when done ripping and auto starts when a new one is put in. So its easy to pop in a new one every time you go by the computer. github.com/enzo1982/fre...

Apologies if missing the point, but if you mean for ripping audio from compact discs to digital files, I use freac (and have been ripping to flac mostly but it has plenty options) www.freac.org

it's pretty easy, basically amounted to using freac to convert some FLACs to WMAs. the original WMAs are also around the same size as the new FLACs so.. does outrun 2006 use lossless WMAs or what?

Ah nice. Will check out freac - I’ve been using dBpoweramp CD Ripper for some time, it looks a little old-skool and is paid, but is simple enough & rips FLAC files well.

This is something I've been doing lately, as some of our CD rips are old and done using outdated software. Bean using freac - free audio converter to do my new rips since it supports HQ lame and full-Q flac files.

I respect it, to be clear, and XP should run fine on a lot of surprisingly new hardware (like sandy bridge optiplexes should have full drivers and be available for near nothing) plus there's XP EXFAT drivers & you can FREAC on your modern computer to convert anything lossless to WMAlossless/WAV
