Democrats had four absences earlier. BUT, Frederica Wilson returned for the evening series. Then as Rs prepared to put this bill on the floor, Brittany Pettersen (recently gave birth) unexpectedly arrived to vote. AND Kevin Mullin (hospitalized) just unexpectedly showed up. Rs can only lose 1 now

Capitol Hill is basically closed off today so that they can build security and logistics infrastructure for a crowd estimated in the hundreds of thousands at an event they just cancelled at the last minute. A lot of Trump fans have flights and hotel reservations. Crazy to do this last minute

Thomas Massie just walked in and flipped his vote on the rule from yes to no. Love him or hate him, he is one of a kind.
The vote now stands at 207 Y - 217 N, with 5 Republicans opposed and 8 not voting.

Valadao just voted yes. Fitzpatrick has physically left, so the only remaining avenue to passage for Johnson and Trump runs through the Freedom Caucus. When they cave it will probably be all at once as opposed to one at a time.

House Dems have once again achieved full attendance on this vote series, a thing Republicans have only managed to do on one vote in 2026. An impressive run by House Dem leaders to begin the year
House now taking the first of two procedural votes which include language embedded by Republican leadership that would surrender congressional powers to block Trump’s tariffs until August. They’ve passed these measures several times over the past year; this extension expected to be a close vote

Closely inspecting the list of tariffs/countries posted by the White House, Trump did not put tariffs on Russia. Ukraine's tariff is 10%, the EU's is 20%, and every American ally is on the list. But not Russia.
