Obviously thinking of lil 10 n 15 through into 28 n 33 (18 years of the gates being closed wowwie LOL maybe we futz with the ages but because Do You Wanna Build a Snowman is in three parts.... LISTEN THIS IS ON THE FLY MOSTLY) but of the friggin 'okay bye...' part with 10 all sad and obviously needing to toss myself out a damn window in a fit but IMAGINING CLIVE'S WANT TO THROW HIMSELF OUT THE WINDOWlksjdflkjlkdfjldkf xD Telling his little brother, whom he adores and would die for, was born for to "Go away." but he can't take chances. He can't risk somehow hurting Joshua again. Terrified that even the opening the door (maybe Anabella also makes him keep the door closed maybe even he's locked in there DUNNO) will somehow make things go south again. Another shot of harmful magic that he never meant to cast just by being in proximity... Then the middle part i just enjoy the idea of maybe instead of 23 28 we just hope ahead maybe another 5 or 6 years so it's 15 20 and Joshua occupying himself with the castle while continuing to wonder why Clive never comes out. It just happened one day when they were so close... and trying to fill the vacant space beside him seems impossible but he tries. Tho thinking maybe at night they speak to each other through the door- they don't speak of the door opening only of their goings ons, maybe some stories cause Clive always loved telling them or making up grand adventures. He always wanted to see the world-- the two of them as kids fantasizing about what they could see or what's beyond the horizon even tho they knew their places within the Rosfield line means they're denied most of these fantasies. And if anything one of them will be married off but they didn't wanna think about that they only wanted to think of what their life would be that They decided upon. One of these longs nights of speaking through the door-- maybe they'r both laying on their backs so the crack under the door lets them be heard a little better. between that short period from 10-15 y/o maybe one day after their conversations Joshua walks by Clive's room as he always does just in case to see a well loved plush in front of it with a note attached. The chocobo plush's wing is made of different material-- remembers that during a rare spat between them when they were little Boko lost a wing in the skirmish... And Clive had asked one of the handmaids to help him fix it. Joshua still feels bad about it- he thinks he started it but.. seeing the striped material next to the soft dandelion yellow he can only feel tender about it. The note is in Clive's blocky but clean script (his handwriting has gotten better.... he wishes they could sit side by side during their tutoring...) just says: "For you. Keep him safe." Plush in arm, note in the pocket inside of coat he presses his forehead to the wood of the ornate door and says a quiet thank you. fingertips trailing on the wood before he turns properly away and continues with his tasks for the day. Determined to ask the kitchen staff to send Clive's food with an extra dessert and his own note in thanks and promise. going into possibly 2328 then instead of 2833 for the third part of the song-- News came back that their parents are gone the kingdom is in their laps and Joshua feels overwhelmed with all the expectations placed upon him. the people look to him for answers and what to do and he.. he can't handle it but he feels he would feel just that much more confident and stronger if he could have Clive beside him. Clive has apologised and said he's doing what he can- He leaves when he knows Joshua isn't around and does what he can to lighten the load that Joshua has been given. But his heart breaks again and again when Joshua finds himself of that same ornate door that has become his existing memory of what his brother looks like and voice thick with the threat of tears cause it was a week long run of demands and needs and he felt he was bound to crumble- he's just run thin and needs time to recoup (Clive fairs no better truly but that doesn't matter in this moment) Forehead pressed once more to the wood with the cracked "Please.... i know you're in there... They're asking where you've been." Eyes pinched shut and a shuddered breath. "They say "Have courage." and im trying to. Im right out here for you-- Just let me in." Clive knows going out now would open them both up for him fucking up again. he can't. he's too worn thin and feels his aether fluctuate and even the material of his gloves starts to give into it. But he aches-- how he aches to wretch open the door and let Joshua collapse into him and hold him truly for the first time in 13 years- heart longing and weeping in this need that has own grown and grown. Filled with the adoration and care that he never lost. But he can't. He can't. he doesn't trust himself. He'd end his life before putting Joshua in danger. joshua barely hears the wet "Im sorry..." before he turns to return to his own room to try and sleep to recover. Clive finds himself before Joshua's own door that night the only proof he was there come morning is that the handle is dusted with residual aether and the faint scent of dusk rose.
