#functional-programming
This makes it *look* like a link without actually doing anything. This was an intentional programming choice that has no purpose but deception and prevents users from accessing or updating the ways in which Sonos uses their data.

remember, when you correctly point out that a fascist company that makes money off killing people has successfully taken over one functional programming project (nix) and is now attempting to take over a second one the same way (Haskell), apparently that’s a conspiracy theory

Jiayan v240 Just Proved Its Chinese Compiler Can Understand Complex Expressions — And Fix Its Own Past Mistakes + Video
A Chinese Programming Language Takes Another Step Toward Maturity The development of Jiayan (甲言), a self-hosting Chinese programming language and compiler, has reached another interesting milestone with the release of Jiayan v2.4.0. This update introduces a fully functional 251-line Chinese expression evaluator, demonstrating how the language handles operator precedence, recursive parsing, error propagation, and exhaustive result classification. Rather than introducing another isolated syntax demonstration, the developer has built a real program that exercises multiple language features together.

“there’s simply no way to tell if the anduril transphobe with haskell accelerationist (hs/acc) in his twitter username will be a good or bad influence on the community so we made him a board member”

for those keeping score at home, that’s at least the second functional programming language that […]

I haven't done much in Unreal Engine before but I kinda don't get the sense that a functional logic programming language from a creator of Haskell will necessarily be high enough performance to cover for C++.
Both Blueprints AND C++ Gameplay Framework being removed from Unreal Engine??

I heard Election Day voting machines had outdated programming software. Early voting machines had been updated so worked properly. The plan is to get one machine updated and functional at each polling place for late afternoon and evening voters. They will scan and count bagged ballots from earlier.

functional + logical model programming (whatever that means). It's definitely not imperative, which is how usually people think, like "I have to do these 10 steps, so I start with step 1"... It's haskell influenced, so that might already tell you what it's like :P

As Verse is a functional programming language, having no visual language for non-programmers will be a massive hurdle to migrate to this new version. Enforcing a single language, and especially a FP one, onto everyone is IMHO bizarre.
As someone who has spent decades in Unreal, this is a MASSIVE change that is a completely new development pipeline on the design and engineering side of gameplay implementation. It bears no resemblance to Unreal whatsoever and will require a completely new skillset that forces reliance on AI in UE6.

It's still a bit slop around the edges, but I'm liking how my new functional programming language site is shaping up, style-wise. cinch.systems

Cinch is a strict functional language with dependent types, explicit effects, resource ownership, and checked contracts for running software.

kit is making a new programming language and i asked if it was functional and he goes "no. well it has everything. so yes."
November 3, 2026 at 3:24 PM
yeah it takes some getting used to.

I do a livestream with @adler.dev semi-regularly, where he knows all the functional programming and type theory, and I know the math, and we muddle our way through learning how to do stuff with it, but it's not easy!

imagine if we had an elementary programming class in schools so we could do a cheesy “programming is FUNdamental” poster

also, nobody would fall for the LLM grift if they grew up with basic programming knowledge

Moving from Ruby to Elixir is more than a syntax change. It is a new way of thinking about software.

Theres dozens of us who like using llms for functional programming. I feel like recent frontier models have moved the needle pretty significantly on what you can expect in ML dialect languages atleast.
This may be because of their close coupling with lambda calculus and the RL work in that direction
November 2, 2026 at 4:56 PM
Idk if strictly better, but functional programming is easier to properly verify and so it is easier to get to a point where you trust the output of the llm.
