Even though the gamvar is bleeding some areas I applied last night it's fine for this style of painting. I chose gamvar because it is formulated to allow oil paints to dry beneath it, even if the surface is dry to the touch. I also thought it would be the least likely thing to yellow

My work is inspired by Van Gogh, the Group of Seven, Celtic line work, stained glass, & my own interpretation of the Canadian landscape. Most paintings take about 3-6 weeks, working almost every day, and I use Gamvar Gloss varnish as the final coat. Thank you all for the incredible support.💙

Gamvar was always one I worried would yellow. Or just didn't feel right. I started using this after I read a few mtg artist recommendations. It's very thin.

Varnishing day. I apply Gamblin’s Gamvar Gloss. Before it sets, I gently wipe off the excess with a soft cloth. It evens out the paint colour’s sheen & brings the depth back, making the whole piece feel more unified and alive.

How do you go about avoiding this if you use Gamvar. I do have danvar and could wait for the painting’s true cure time maybe?

Varnishing this painting with Gamvar Satin. The varnish offers UV protection for my fluorescent pigments. I may add a coat of cold wax varnish to reduce the sheen.

I use Gamblin Gamvar. It can be applied as soon as paintings are dry to the touch so I don’t have to wait 6 months.

Trad artists- what is your go varnish for oil paintings? I recently tried gamblin gamvar varnish and it always somehow drys looking really streaky and I'm just not a fan. I've also tried w&n satin varnish which always dries beautifully but the smell is VERY potent 😅
