A bit of French market porn. The marinaded duck is amazing and it's strawberry (gariguette) & asparagus season in the Périgord.

C’est en jouant la carte des variétés, que les agriculteurs tricolores ont repris des parts de marché à leurs concurrents européens, atteignant les 50 % d’autoapprovisionnement, constate Laurence Girard, journaliste économique au « Monde ».

Asparagus first, then the gariguette strawberries. The whole market smells of the best strawberries in the world.

I love this time of year when Spanish green asparagus is replaced by French asparagus and the smell of gariguette strawberries fills the markets. A treat for the taste buds.

It’s Gariguette - I spent years looking in vain for them here. But it seems this is the first year they have been available for sale in the US

Morning Cats and ORCestra. ☕
My 'up & sorted' by 7am has been destroyed by lack of canine 'needs' plus dark winter mornings. I'm rarely even up by 7.30am atm.
Best wishes to all for a most excellent Thursday. Strawberries are starting to flower in the polytunnel - Gariguette, for those that know.

Loot of a very active day:
Cheese and fruits and bread
Interesting blue goat cheese and delicious mini mangoes. First “gariguette” strawberries I’ve seen this year.
Now I’m deader than dead so it will be Netflix and chill… 😉

Not great to send partner food shopping. I specifically requested: gariguette strawberries, green asparagus, curly parsley.
I received: whatever-charlotte strawberries, white asparagus, flat parsley. And he’s insisting that it’s all fine.
There will be no food today - I’m spending the day in bed.

Bonjour Rob and ORClanders. Best wishes for a sunny and warm bank holiday weekend - Monday's a holiday here in 🇫🇷 too. Glorious start to the day tho it's due to be 30°C by mid-afternoon. My Saturday pain-au-choc is about to arrive. ☕😎

My potager is not large, and we tend to see progress much later than most, but despite the weird weather conditions, it is giving me a rather nice selection of goodies!
