The Mauritius ornate day gecko (Phelsuma ornata) is a diurnal species of gecko in the family Gekkonidae, the common geckos. It occurs in Mauritius, on the main island up to an elevation of 300 metres (980 feet) and on most of the surrounding islands.

Such camouflage - can you spot the Mossy Leaf-tailed Gecko?

Luckily they will spend a few days in the area location, making them easier to return to once found!

Tokay Gecko (Gekko gecko), family Gekkonidae, SE Asia.

They make surprisingly loud, high-pitched barks.
This is a large gecko, growing (on average) to a total length of around 30 cm.

I love geckos. They are fantastic hunters and very useful reptiles at home. Yes! They eat annoying flies and mosquitoes! The family Gekkonidae seems to come from the Gekkota, which emerged during the Jurassic period. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekFforFilm : Jurassic Park. #nature

As I explore how to curate @boldsystems.bsky.social data I keep coming across "interesting" taxonomy, such as two research groups giving the same name (Tropiocolotes hormozganensis) to the same species in the same year! One paper is doi.org/10.11646/zoo..., the other is zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoo...

Also published in October, this Gehyra corona foot in an article by Fred Kraus, Varpu Vahtera & Valter Weijola:

Gekkonidae) from Papua New Guinea closely
related to Gehyra oceanica' 🦎👣

Just a reminder that DPIRD's MyPestGuide reported app or website has lots of nice observations that the nice people will id with pleasure.
For example a lizard was reported yesterday, which the experts id'd as a native Gehyra variegata

#IslandRules This suggestion is pretty cool : « … large body size in geckos may be at least correlated with a highly arboreal ecology ».
Limited dispersal leads to differing evolutionary trajectories between adjacent continental and insular lineages in a widespread lizard radiation (Gehyra: Gekkonidae)
Abstract. Biotic dispersal between regions is mediated by a suite of geographical, environmental, and biotic factors. Australia and Melanesia—with the latt

Muchas gracias, sanchogik! 🤗 Son muy chulos, verdad? A mí me encantan esas patitas 🥰 La salamanquesa rosada sí que es de la familia gekkonidae 😉

So, fun thing about geckos is that there is a whole subset that lack some “classic” gecko traits!
Banded geckos (and leopard geckos) are eyelid geckos (Eublepharidae): they have eyelids and lack the extremely sticky toes of something like a Tokay (Gekkonidae). Eyelid geckos use their claws more.🦎
