@craftivists mini protest banner. Took me 6 months to make as I’m not very good at sewing! I’ve put this up on a fence at the end of the footpath leading to my children’s school. A gentle nudge to passersby to encourage them to make a difference for good. #craftivist #trowbridge #gentleprotest
A purple, flowery piece of fabric, with white cross-stitch fabric sewn onto it, containing the hand-stitched quote “What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make” - Jane Goodall. The piece is tied to a chain link fence with brown string. There is a playing field in the background. - a label attached to the piece says “Craftivist Collective. Made with courage and love.”

As philosophized by Aristotle, “gentleness [is] a compromise between excessive anger and excessive indifference. A gentle approach doesn’t reject anger but asks us to use it appropriately.” -Sarah Corbett Gentle Craftivism course

An embroidery hoop lays in the grass surrounded by pink flowers that have fallen from a tree. “TRUE STRENGTH LIES IN GENTLENESS” is embroidered in the middle of the light pink fabric with credit for the quote given to Aristotle at the bottom. Green embroidered leaves and vines surround the words, and the top says CVNT in reference to The CVNT Collective, a craftivism nonprofit using the concept of gentle protest in their pursuit to build community, raise funds to donate to other nonprofits, and foster hope amidst political destabilization.

This work from 2021 is called 'Come to the table'. Both tablecloths say 'Greetings from our Future'.

What future do you choose for yourself, your community, your country, and the world?

Two square artworks hang next to each other on a gallery wall. They are both tablecloths. The one on the left is black and grey. There is a circular black frame within the square. This frame area is heavily patched and darned. Inside the circle is a stitched outline map of Australia. There are several ripped and worn areas that have also been visibly mended. The words 'Greetings from our Future' are stitched in outline across the map. This tablecloth references the popular souvenir tablecloths sold to tourists. On the right is a multicoloured embroidered tablecloth. A central circle is filled with a wide variety of colours, shapes, and stitch styles. It is like an enormous stitching sampler. The words 'Greetings from our Future' are left unstitched. The words are the same size and font as on the black tablecloth. The outside area of the coloured tablecloth shows that this artwork has been made from an unfinished embroidery project: there is some stitching over a transfer of a traditional vintage design of a woman wearing a crinoline dress in a flower filled garden.

It was so amazing to have Sarah Corbett visit Settle HQ and deliver a workshop with the #SettleAdvocates about #Crativism and the power of #GentleProtest

After such an inspiring day we can't wait to see how we can use what we have learned to power up the #AHomeOfOurOwn campaign 💪

Thank you Sarah 💜
