As someone that studied earth science in college, university and grad school I am watching with perverse fascination as the planet reacts to human-caused geochemical changes.

it's deeply funny that neocons deluded themselves into believing that monetizing venezualan oil reserves hasn't worked because COMMUNISM BAD and not because of physical, geochemical, political and logistical idiosyncrasies
Taking a little bit of pleasure in oil executives waking up to the news they're going to be pressured to spend billions in Venezuela to make Trump make sense.

Nearly two miles underground in South Africa, scientists have found oxygen that has never seen sunlight. In March 2026 tapped brine that geochemical dating shows has been sealed off from the surface for at least 1.2 billion years. buff.ly/UnsdmoH

As soon as I read this paper about stressed rocks emitting geochemical signals prior to fracturing, I couldn't stop thinking about boulders pushed to the absolute brink and then releasing an exhausted sigh before they crack. Very relatable!
Measuring how stressed rocks 'sigh' before breaking could help predict geohazards
An international team of scientists connect geochemical signal fluctuations in rocks to progressive changes in rock structure that lead to critical failure.

In Dante’s Peak, the volcanologist has to choose between his first chance for sex in 5 years or tracking down a geochemical anomaly and he goes after the anomaly. That’s as realistic as it gets
