Word of the Hour: Eozoon - A peculiar structure found in the Archaean limestones of Canada and other regions. By some geologists it is believed to be a species of gigantic Foraminifera but others consider it a concretion without organic structure. #WordOfTheHour #WordOfTheDay

One for the Geologists out there, you do wonder at the incredible forces that baked this amazing wiggly (technical term) rock! Found on the beautiful island of Tiree.

Perhaps we should leave the question of how the profound human-induced changes to the Earth system will appear in the rock record to the cockroach geologists of the far future, and instead focus on making it as much like an ‘event’ as we can.

'Geologists can't agree that humans are changing the Earth' is a gift to the forces of deny-delay. That is not what actually is in dispute, but that is how it looks, and it's certainly how it can be framed.

Fiordland is criss-crossed by 1500 faultlines that geologists actually know about (and probably many more given how much of the massif is covered in wall to wall moss and rainforest) but Milford Sound intersects at least three major faultlines, including the Great Alpine Fault.

Full paper proposing this here.

It has been politely, and completely, ignored by geologists and geophysicists.

5 citations in 60 years, one of them is a self-citation and three are variations of an arXiv thing about the Fermi paradox.

Interesting geologists call the northern area up by Voyagers National Park the Shield of America.
That rock you see here was very amazing. It was HUGE 😊

This is actually the exact line geologists used to use to get money from Early Modern European monarchs.
Exactly, we’ll use the money to hit stuff with hammers, and take pictures of our hammers in interesting locations!

Gathrontor is a vast titan combining elements of dachshund and shrub. Their rumoured existence was confirmed after horrified geologists reviewed aerial footage of half-eaten oil tankers strewn across the sea bed off Japan.

The recent report is that they have found the ark in eastern Turkey, about 18 miles south of Mount Ararat. Mainstream geologists, as scientists perhaps agents of Stan, say the location is just a natural formation of rock and clay. But when they find a nearby Koala skeleton, G-d will be vindicated!

Like one of the basic functions of academia is they don't need to give unqualified "autodidacts" the time of day. There are no shortage of crackpots in the world, and it doesn't behoove geologists to do geology when they have to rebut people who think the earth is 4000 years old.

Software I've written in association with a colleague at the Open University (he's frontend, I'm backend) is being used a lot in this trial - it's a thing called PASTI that lets the geologists suggest targets for further exploration.
I'm absurdly proud of this.

Yellowstone's geology staff have found over 20,000 pieces of trash so far this year in hydrothermal areas.

Some salvaged items include over 280 hats, dozens of camera lens covers — and even six Invisalign retainers.

Geologists have already concluded that it is a natural formation of rock. There is jo evidence of rooms, corridors or organic material under the surface.
Believe in God if you like, but there is and never will be proof. That’s why it’s called Faith, because you’re faithfully believing bullshit.
