One big trope I use in "King of Blades" is combat pragmatism. Within a match in CoE, there's only one rule: win within the time limit. Suffice to say, it frees me up for some pretty entertaining fight descriptions.

“Fight!” sounded the computer.
Ghadir squatted down. I suspected that she had something planned but advanced anyway. I was immediately proven right when she sprang up and threw sand at my eyes. Some of it got in, but I cleared my eyes just in time to flourish my katana and drive her to the side.

Ghadir faked out a rush, prompting me to flinch. Then, she loosed a knife from beneath her sleeve and rushed after it. I blocked the knife with my gauntlet and struck at her, but she parried my attack with yet another knife, drew a third, and stabbed at me. But I blocked the stab and kicked at her. As she stumbled back, she drew a fourth knife and slashed me across my nose.
I staggered back, dropping my katana.
I reached for the still-sheathed cursed katana but stopped my hand as Ghadir threw another knife but missed. She faked out another throw, this time yielding no reaction from me. Then, I lunged to retrieve my standard katana, prompting Ghadir to actually throw her knife. I grabbed the katana just in time to deflect the incoming knife and shine the sun’s light into Ghadir’s eyes as she tried to rush in.
Seizing my chance, I lowered my katana to my hip, charged at the still-staggered Ghadir, and decapitated her in one stroke. The now-headless Ghadir flopped on the sand at my feet, and I swung my katana downward to my side.
“Finish!” sounded the computer, and another whirlwind of cybernetic blips and lights encircled me.

Only now did I notice the sizable crowd gathered around, cheering for me as I stepped off the platform. Ghadir’s voice, sadly, wasn’t among these cheers.
“Hey!” she shouted, prompting me to turn back to her. “You cheater!”
“What?” I asked.
“You got the sun in my eyes!”
I raised an eyebrow, dumbstruck at this apparent immaturity. “You threw sand in my eyes, and you’re calling me a cheater?”
“I used a legitimate strategy!”
“Well, look at that. So did I.”
The crowd muttered in agreement as Ghadir shuddered with her teeth bared. “No. I will not have this! Let’s have a do-over! Now!”
She tapped her N-patch and the challenge icon again, but this time, an error message flared.
“Sorry, ma’am,” said the sentry. “One match a day at maximum. Remember?”
Ghadir huffed and stormed off the platform, which folded back up into its sentry form.
