#ghrelin
Ghrelin is the best-named hormone and it’s not even close.

My fellow disordered eating comrades! I am here to announce that I experience hunger pangs again. It’s a weird victory to hear your stomach growl but it is I one. The ghrelin is back, baby!

Ghrelin- und Cannabinoid-Agonisten oder Melanocortin-4-Rezeptor-Antagonisten.

Die Zukunft bleibt also spannend.

Forschung zeigt:

🍽️ New study shows that “mini-ghrelins” (short peptides from ghrelin breakdown) can bind and block the ghrelin receptor without triggering its effects. Instead of being inactive leftovers, they may actively inhibit ghrelin’s hunger-inducing actions.

Mini-Ghrelins: Functional Characterization of N-terminal Peptides Derived from Ghrelin Proteolysis in Male Samples
Abstract. Some evidence suggests that ghrelin in plasma undergoes proteolytic processing, leading to the generation of shorter peptides containing the bioa

• …

Der Körper will Gewicht halten, nicht verlieren. Denn aus evolutionärer Sicht war Fett = Überleben.

Daher passiert dies:

1. Essen wir weniger, steigt Ghrelin (Hungerhormon)
2. Schrumpfen Fettdepots, sinkt Leptin → mehr Appetit
3. Stoffwechsel wird effizienter (= Kaloriensparen)

Though fearsome predators, snakes can go weeks or even months without eating.

Now, scientists think they may know how they do it.

Snakes have lost the genes to produce ghrelin, a key hormone that regulates appetite, digestion, and fat storage..

Loss of ‘hunger hormone’ has made snakes masters of fasting
Ditching ghrelin genes may have helped a wide variety of reptiles deal with a boom-or-bust feeding schedule

Your stomach called – your striatum picked up!

But does this actually happen in humans?

Using simultaneous dopamine PET/fMRI, we show that the gut hormone ghrelin helps the brain adjust motivation to current metabolic need.

Here’s what we found👇

A huge thank you to @nbkroemer.bsky.social for his guidance and endless enthusiasm throughout this project 🙏

Part of this depends on your body's production of ghrelin, also called the "hunger hormone".

Ghrelin Hormone: Function and Definition
Ghrelin is the hunger hormone. It stimulates appetite and signals your brain when it’s time to eat. Ghrelin also helps with releasing insulin and growth hormones.
