Best: Gogol Bordello, Prodigy, James Brown (I can't remember any years).

Worst: Another vote for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, tempted to say Puddle of Mudd but they were kind of so bad it was funny.

One of the best was supporting one of the worst, I shall let you guess which.

Best bands I've seen live? Jehnny Beth, The Cramps, Gogol Bordello, Iggy Pop, Benefits

Worst: Loop, Ozric Tentacles, Faith No More, Nick Cave

This list doesn't count bands I didn't like before I saw them play.

Gogol Boerdello were a completely unexpected pleasure & bonus when I saw them support the Dropkick Murphy’s , I’d never heard of them before

Crazy how signing off on a death certificate nets you about £300. Such a joke even Gogol couldn't write

Oh, Id forgotten about Gogol: your right theyre absurdly good. Just pure energy.

Brighton band called Boffos Wake doing a very good knock off of that atm

Would say by far the best were Gogol Bordello. Just an absolute riot from start to end. You'd be drenched in sweat, covered in bruises and absolutely love it.

One time they did the encore and then announced "Well, we have the venue for a couple more hours" and brought a DJ on just to party

On top of some 19th century goodies courtesy of Edgar Allan Poe and Nikolai Gogol, I’m sporadically listening to The Spire by William Golding read by Benedict Cumberbatch. You just know it’s not going to end well.

Gogol somehow manages to write rich dialogue and prose and at the same time really overdo it. Interesting how this centers serfdom, even though pretty much every character is a noble. Well done satire and criticism of serfdom and corruption. I wish he'd been able to write the sequels.

where does Gogol go in this though, The Nose is all wordplay and nothing about Dead Souls feels like a solemn march to me

The strange thing about the Ukrainian state's campaign against Russian literature is that it effectively concedes to Russia exclusive ownership of Gogol, Bulgakov, Grossman, Akhmatova, Babel, Kataev (and others), who are a considerable part of Ukraine's own cultural inheritance.

Morning to the womble tribe worldwide. Just finished up The Correspondent which was okay.

Now heading back to the 19th century for …
The Fall Of The House Of Usher And Other Stories (Edgar Allan Poe) in printed format, and
Dead Souls (Nikolai Gogol) in someone talking in my ear format.
