HOVINARRI JA AAMUNKOI
(yours in exquisite agony)

#art #traditionalart #GoldenHourComic
Fanart of Sacrosanct the Sable and the demon Beelzebub from the comic Golden Hour by Kai Lysander. The two are depicted in a scene of courtly love. Sacrosanct kneels before his lord, clasping one of his hands, as Beelzebub graciously caresses his chin. Translator's note: "hovinarri ja aamunkoi" means "court jester and the break of dawn," but you could also translate "aamunkoi" as "morningsmoth".

ANTENORAN LEPATTAVA SYDÄN
(hold still, my sweet)

#GoldenHourComic #fanart #art #traditionalart
Summary: Fanart of the demon Beelzebub as depicted in Kai Lysander's Golden Hour. He reaches towards the viewer with a sinister smile. Details: Beelzebub is humanoid with prominent moth-like features: antennae, wings with eye spots, and thick fur covering the entirety of his legs and the back of his six arms. His upper body is clad in armor reminiscent of a carapace. His eyes are yellow with narrow pupils. Beelzebub's posture imitates a welcome. He bows slightly, hand over his heart(s?), while two more hands beckon, inviting us closer. At the same time, he oozes violent intent. Of the remaining three hands, one holds a scalpel, another a human heart of unknown origin. The last one, drawn closer in perspective, reaches for the viewer- not to invite, but to seize. In additon, three hands out of the six have blood on them. Translator's notes: "Antenoran lepattava sydän" = the fluttering heart of Antenora In Dante's Inferno, Antenora refers to a part of hell reserved for traitors to their country; in Golden Hour, it is Beelzebub's domain.

LANGETA SILMÄISI VALO, KOINTÄHTI
(supernova that you are)

#art #myart #fanart #GoldenHourComic #Undertale #crossover
Summary: Fanart of Satan from Kai Lysander's Golden Hour, dressed like Mettaton EX from the game Undertale. He sings close to the mic and plays an electric guitar. Venus shines on her shoulders. Details: The heart symbol on Satan's waist has a crack. Her face is in profile, with two of four eyes visible. His earth-red gaze is aimed at the viewer. Translator's notes: Langeta silmäisi valo, Kointähti = "Cast down the light of your eyes, Morningstar". Silmäisi valo, lit. light of your eyes, is an expression equivalent to "your beloved". The archaic conjugation silmäisi for "your eyes" is at home in poetry, song and scripture; the modern formal spelling would be silmiesi. Kointähti is an old Finnish name for Venus. Literally Kointähti is "star of koi". Possible translations for it in this context are "star of the East", "star of dawnbreak", and the better-known "Morningstar". Simultaneously it is possible to read Kointähti as "the star of the moth", since moth in Finnish is also spelled koi.

Summary: A hand-drawn portrait of Father Lorne Ferré, the protagonist of Kai Lysander's comic Golden Hour. Details: Lorne wears a cassock with a white collar. Their eyes are somber, downcast. Behind him shines a multicoloured, pupil-like halo. Translator's note: hyvin säilynyt, epätoivolla seppelöity = well preserved, crowned with a wreath of despair

KALMANKYLMÄKSI KENGITETTY
(a cinch to chaperone)

#art #myart #traditionalart #GoldenHourComic #fanart
Summary: An illustration of Nobledeer and Sacrosanct the Sable for the crossover fanfiction Silkkipaperisielu, set in the world of Kai Lysander's comic Golden Hour. Details: Nobledeer and Sacrosanct are holding hands, with Sacrosanct partly kneeling in profile and Nobledeer standing facing forward. Nobledeer is dressed practically in black pants, leather boots, a sturdy belt and a sleek pale blue sweater. They have a bluish pallor about them. Their clothing is likewise of dull colours. Only their gold-brown hair has any luster to it, shining brightly as it frames their face. Their expression and stance are uneasy, eyes downcast to look at themself. They are either oblivious or indifferent to Sacrosanct's tail around their arm or his grip on their hand. Sacrosanct is a jester-sable-creature with long, sleek limbs, and a much longer tail that he has looped around Nobledeer's arm several times. His costume features a ruffled collar, high boots, numerous bells and vibrant colours - orange, yellow and turquoise - contrasting the more subdued hues of the other's attire. Sacrosanct regards Nobledeer with a happy, arguably fond expression. One gloved hand clasps their smaller hand while the other rests on his heart. The tail loops around Sacrosanct's arm once and Nobledeer's four times, coiling around the latter with increasing tightness and making further loops in the air as it hangs between the pair. Translator's notes: KALMANKYLMÄKSI KENGITETTY = "[horse]shoed into someone cold as death" The verbiage ties in with the phrase in the brackets, a cinch being a girth for a saddle or bag on a horse. The idiomatic use of the word is synonymous with breeze - chaperoning being a cinch means it's easy to do.

SIELUA SYLEILEVÄ KADOTUS
(el último vals)

"Things that only last a short amount of time are meant to be devoured quickly, and... enjoyed thoroughly."

#GoldenHourComic #art #traditionalart #fanart
Summary: Fanart of Father Lorne Ferré and his husband, the demon Buer, from Kai Lysander's comic Golden Hour. The pair is depicted dancing waltz. Details: Buer leads, effortlessly supporting Lorne's weight as he dips him back, looking lovingly down at him. Lorne's expression is one of quiet unease. He looks not at his husband, but at his own right hand, which is held tight in Buer's claws. Translator's notes: "sielua syleilevä kadotus" = the soul-embracing perdition "el último vals" = the final waltz

LEIJONANVÄSYTTÄJÄ
(savour your drink, dear-hart)

#GoldenHourComic #fanart #art #myart #traditionalart
Summary: An illustration of Sacrosanct the Sable and Nobledeer for the crossover fanfiction Silkkipaperisielu, set in the world of Kai Lysander's comic Golden Hour. Details: Nobledeer is a young person in button boots, a rust red suit and a bloodstained shirt. Their long hair is open and hangs listlessly around their face. Sacrosanct is a jester-sable-creature with long, sleek limbs and a tail. His elaborate costume features ruffles, bright colours and many, many little bells. Sacrosanct sits cross-legged with Nobledeer on his lap. His arm around their waist holds them close while another covers their mouth. He is nuzzling the top of their head with a smile. Nobledeer seems overwhelmed, their eyes blank and their posture unsteady. Their skin is alarmingly pale with a bluish tint. They tightly grip the arm laid across their lap; whether this is to push it away or to steady themself is left unclear. Their other arm reaches away from Sacrosanct while his tail draws a playful loop around it. Translator's note: Leijonanväsyttäjä means one who tires out lion(s). It is a play on leijonankesyttäjä, lion tamer.

AUTUUDEN KAITSIJAT
(dale el veneno, mi cordero)

The one in the middle is Agnus, lovely OC of @balilas.bsky.social 🦋

#GoldenHourComic #fanart #art #myart #traditionalart
Summary: Side view of three figures in a braid train: Nobledeer, Agnus, and Sacrosanct the Sable. Details: Moths and butterflies crowd around Nobledeer. They are on their knees, their palms are pressed together as if in prayer. Though formally dressed, they are missing their suit jacket. Nobledeer's gaze is turned toward a conversation behind their back, but their uncertain expression suggests they cannot quite make it out. Unlike the others, they are all colourpencil. The last car in the train, Sacrosanct is a jester-sable-creature, his sleek humanoid limbs and tail coated in fine black fur. His ears peek out cheerily from underneath his jester hat. His colourful costume features a big ruffled collar and numerous golden bells. Though masked by gloves, his hands are claw-like. He is hunched over them as he works on Agnus' braid. Sacrosanct's white mask of a face is framed by loose black curls. It features a sharp, open-mouthed smile, as well as what look like painted hearts on his cheeks - a second set of eyes, in truth. The first set exchanges knowing glances with Agnus; along with his open mouth and his leaning toward her, he seems to be telling her something. Head bowed, back straight, lip curled upward, Agnus is the quiet centerpiece of the image. She holds Nobledeer's braid in her gloved hands, and Sacrosanct's tail is secured around the crook of her arm. The high collar of her blouse is adorned with little bells that match the buttons on the front of it. A moth rests as a crown atop her head. Translator's notes: autuuden kaitsijat = minders of eternal bliss dale el veneno, mi cordero = give them the poison, my lamb Autuus is a biblical term, meaning a state of salvation or otherworldly contentment. However, it is most often encountered in an Finnish equivalent of "ignorance is bliss", autuaita ovat tietämättömät, which roughly means "blessed are the unaware". Kaitsija derives from the verb kaitsea = to mind children or animals, especially sheep.

KÄRPÄSENLEIKKI
(I can make you want me)

#art #myart #GoldenHourComic #fanart #traditionalart
Summary: Handdrawn artwork of Cyberpunk Red character Nobledeer and the demon Beelzebub from Kai Lysander's comic Golden Hour. Details: Sitting on a stone slab, Nobledeer stares forward in a fearful daze. Their mouth is open, showing pointed teeth. Beelzebub looms over them with a toothy grin. Eyes aglow, he inspects their signature red tie with two hands. His antennae are closed around their head like the jaws of a beetle, one caressing their hair while another tips up their chin. Drawn like a vibrant cloak, his wings envelop the scene. Translator's note: kärpäsenleikki = fly's play. This is a play on kärpäsenloukku, flytrap.

PYHÄVAARAN LAKI
(l'uccello del paradiso a caccia)

#GoldenHourComic #fanart #art #myart #traditionalart
Summary: Fanart of the angel Vasariah from Kai Lysander's comic Golden Hour. Vasariah is dressed in winterwear and stares straight at the viewer. A forested hillscape stretches out into the horizon behind him. Details: Vasariah stands on the frost-covered top of the hill Pyhävaara, haloed by a yellow wool hat. His birdlike eyes are emphasized. Something like a smile plays on his lips, and his red hair curls around his face like the caress of flames on a branch. The view behind the angel features numerous hills and some frozen lakes. The furthest hills are faint and bluish, obscured by fog and blending with the clear October sky. Translator's notes: Pyhävaaran laki = the top of Pyhävaara l'uccello del paradiso a caccia = the bird of paradise on the hunt The Finnish geological term vaara refers to a hill that is 50 meters tall or higher and forested all the way to the top. Pyhävaara, located in the municipality of Kuusamo in Northeastern Finland, is one of a multitude of vaaras found in the area. Its name roughly means Sacred-hill. However, the words laki (top of a hill or mountain) and vaara both have other, equally established meanings: law and danger, respectively. Damning adherence to grammar, "Pyhävaaran laki" can thus be read as "the law of sacred danger" in the context of this piece.

VENUKSEN VARJOSTA VALETTU
(graven image, made unto me)

#art #myart #traditionalart #GoldenHourComic #fanart
Summary: Fanart of Beelzebub and Sacrosanct from Kai Lysander's comic Golden Hour sharing a close embrace and a shade of lipstick. Details: Sacrosanct, a jester-sable-creature out of costume, dips Beelzebub as the demon holds on with all six arms and covers the sable's enamored face in lipstick stains. The iridescent green of his shirt is reminiscent of a beetle or butterfly. Save for his face, Sacrosanct is coated in fine black hair. His ears are those of a sable, his hands and feet clawed. He also has a long tail - sleek, and fluffy at the end. Beelzebub, meanwhile, has six arms, fuzzy legs, antennae and carapace-like shielding over his face, and his iridescent green shirt brings to mind a beetle or butterfly. His arms are also fuzzy. Sacrosanct's tail loops about the pair, forming a heart, wrapping around Beelzebub's thigh and cheerfully sweeping the air behind him. Beelzebub's antennae hang languidly downward, relaxed by the embrace. They, too, seem to form halves of a heart, albeit a little ways apart. Translation: Venuksen varjosta valettu = "molded from the shadow of Venus".
