I'm back 😂😂 term twin jewels could have been first coined in the Northern Wei dynasty (386–535 AD) ?
![History of the Northern Dynasties 北史 "text contains 100 volumes and covers the period from 386 to 618 CE" (look I'm copy pasting from Wikipedia cos this isn't my Year 8 History homework) Across a bunch of different Chinese Dynasties. In short, a proper old bit of Chinese writing detailing stuff at the time.
The origin of 双璧 two/twin jewels in Japanese I could only initially find on PIXIV of all places with a little thumbnail of Sanji and Zoro One Piece [1] See below for another fab job of copy pasting from that link:
「双璧」は、中国の「北史・陸俟伝」の中で、北魏の陸凱（りくがい）の子、陸暐（りくい）と陸恭之（りくきょうし）の兄弟が甲乙付け難い俊才であったことを官賈禎（かてい）が「僕以老年、更覩双璧」と評した故事から来ている。
I have heavily supplemented my loose translation from Japanese into English with the help of a page with the snippet of History of the Northern Dynasties in Chinese [2] ....which was google machine translated into English.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:vfrk72cdig4megv65wvax7nr/bafkreid4zlyok72bziqq3ywmbgtuuppb4tnqlzkjpjvva436tukkx5l7we)
!["The twin jewels" comes from a Volume 28 (?) of History of the Northern Dynasties, which is about the Northern Wei Dynasty (386–535CE). In it, it details 陸凱 (Lu Kai) from the Northern Wei Dynasty who has two sons, 陸暐 (Lu Wei) and 陸恭之 (Lu Gongzhi). They were both so goated that you couldn't say who was more goated. 官賈禎 (Jia Zhen, the magistrate of Luoyang) described them as 僕以老年、更覩双璧
in real Chinese then last bit is 仆以老年，更睹双璧
Note 双璧 at the end! As for that string Chinese, I have found two translations that the internet has provided.
"In my old age, I get to see a pair of peerless jades once more."
"In my old age, I have witnessed the brilliance of two gems."
As for the mention of jade, 璧 shares the character with a Chinese bi[3], which is a jade disc with a hole in a middle. I cannot contribute anything else in regard to that, other than I have no clue if the original Chinese references jade explicitly, if jade and a gem more or less mean the same thing... or a machine translation was influenced by the fact that jade discs existed in ancient China (again, I'm not Chinese x).](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:vfrk72cdig4megv65wvax7nr/bafkreihyaxft73ra7tbjjnvbk5bzk5kvg3hr7zyrdhxryujxqj37mkpvnu)

Por dios, yo, que tengo una posición intermedia, criticas muy pesadas por decir que los injertos eran una buena forma de introducir un término de forma orgánica o que me parecía horrible traducir "gongzhi" como "joven maestro" porque es un calco del inglés xd.
