For the book-loving young people in your life, Burst Into Books stocks books for kids 6 months to 18 years on its shelves.
Founder Jurema Gorham created the space to nurture her own child’s love of reading and create literacy resources for families like hers. Her bookstore caters to Black and Brown authors, carrying science fiction, fantasy, graphic novels and everything from biographies to self-help books.
Burst into Books also keeps a free community library with books for all ages.

Can you ever go wrong with fresh doughnuts? For over 50 years, Old Fashioned Donuts has been serving melt-in-your-mouth, glazed doughnuts and apple fritters the size of people’s faces. A dozen doughnuts will run you $17.50, and apple fritters are $5 each.

Founded in 1990, this family-owned business grew around the healing properties of aloe vera juice for dry skin, digestive issues, and inflammation.

You can shop art from Pullman-based artists on the PullmanArts website, which has items like stylized hoodies ($35) and stickers ($3.50) by Block House Gallery and Social Renaissance. They feature Chicago’s public icons, Chicago-themed Wonder City Studio prints ($30-$40) and more. You can also buy a PullmanArts membership at $25-$35 per person and $60 for families.
You can also catch the PullmanArts Holiday Market 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 13. Local vendors will sell their arts and crafts — just in time for last-minute gift runs before the holidays.

Give your friends and family the gift of history. The Pullman National Historical Park tells the story of America’s first planned model industrial community, the sleeping car magnate who created it, the workers who lived there and the watershed moments of civil rights and labor history they organized during.
After visiting, you can pass through its souvenir shop and browse Pullman-themed books, mugs, games and other gifts for the history buff in your life.

**Pullman House Project Tours, 605 E. 111th St.****Website****.**
Take your loved one on a tour through the Pullman House Project, which transports you back in time and into the lives of the train car company’s workers and their families by touring their homes.
Tours start at 10 a.m. each day and take visitors on a 75-minute walk through Pullman, passing Arcade Park, the Hotel Florence, Greenstone Church and Market Hall and the Dunbar House. Attendees can also check out exhibits and drop by Pullman Club Coffee before the tour.
Tickets cost $20 and must be bought before 9 a.m the day of the tour. Individual and group tours are also available. 773-397-3022.

We all scream for ice cream — and why not scream for pints from Richard’s, who has been a Pullman staple since 1999?
