Blind date conversation reveals humorous tattoo misunderstanding
The Guardian's 'Blind Date' column features a detailed account of a first meeting between Shahar, a 29-year-old graphic designer and music label manager, and Stephen, a 34-year-old product designer. The couple met for dinner at Cooper's Cut in London's EC3 area, spending four hours discussing their shared interests in design, music, film, and cooking. Shahar shared that Stephen asked if her disco ball tattoo was actually an onion, which became a memorable moment during their conversation. Both participants described each other positively, with Shahar noting Stephen's engagement and humor, while Stephen admired Shahar's passion for design and her 'great hair.' The date included discussions about their careers, favorite films, and the challenges of modern dating apps. Stephen mentioned his extensive hat collection, while Shahar shared her love for artwork and posters. The couple enjoyed excellent table manners throughout the evening, with Stephen even referring to Shahar as 'the lady' during a conversation with the waiter, which they found amusing. Despite the positive experience, they did not kiss, though they discussed the possibility of meeting again for a concert or cinema outing. Shahar rated the date 8 out of 10, while Stephen felt he couldn't judge a person on a scale. The Guardian's 'Blind Date' column has been running since 2009, pairing strangers for dinner and drinks, with participants answering a set of questions about their interests and expectations. The column appears in Saturday Magazine (UK) and online every Saturday, with applicants required to provide their first name, age, occupation, and basic interests. The Guardian emphasizes that participants should answer questions honestly but respectfully, considering how their responses might be perceived by their date and the wider audience. The column has become a popular feature, offering readers a glimpse into the sometimes humorous and often insightful world of modern blind dating.

Oh no. I was always a mediocre coder. My value was in being the coder that also understood graphic design (though I couldn’t do it at all) and business needs. So I could translate between the stakeholders as well as build things. Retirement is suiting me well.

The Graphic Design line is a little encouraging as people learn that generally people hate the current output of AI design. The problem has always been convenience and good enough has always won the mass market. Only billionaires will be able to afford the excellence they stole from the rest of us.

what I think the ideal is is to get a bunch of people together and everyone writes about something they're really into lately. seen people do it via blogposts and I always like reading those. but to me doing it in a format with like Graphic Design and stuff sounds more fun if maybe overambitious lol
I don't really know what a zine is but I think it would be very fun to be a part of one
